Just pay them the money!
Just pay them the money!
There must be a veritable army of estate agents, car salesman, replacement-window salesmen, etc etc who must be salivating at the prospect of getting some of our young keyboard warriors into their clutches. The idea that whatever the transaction you should just pay over the first asking price without negotiation, haggling or consideration about value for money must be music to their ears. In time it is hoped that some of these who seem to know best how to spend someone else’s money will emerge into the real world and likely not be quite so free spending when they have to use their own money.

Negotiating and haggling is a fine idea, but the point of said haggling is eventually to sign someone surely ?

It's not the market to negotiate for the very reason you don't pay the asking price somebody else will, you pay the money or you don't sign the player it's that simple, you are not operating in a turkish bazaar.

Re: Just pay them the money!
Your theory is better suited to:
I bought a house 20 years ago for 100k. Therefore a house now must only be 100k.
Burnley have in the words of almost every journalist offered laughable bids.
Burnley need to get with the times. You either bid the asking price or you simply don’t get the player.
Re: Just pay them the money!
If only that was the way any market worked and there wasn't a market value.Yes if I didn’t think it was worth 100k
Just because somebody says that’s what they want it doesn’t mean that’s what it’s worth or will get

This popped in to my mind the other day too, just didn’t want to start a PPV argument, but since you have...

Is strange how many were vehemently opposed to paying £15 to watch a match but want multi-£m signings!

Not sure whether in the past we've 'just paid them the money'
for Brady, Hendricks, Wood and Brownhill for example
but we couldn't have been far off what they were asking.
If so then we have already done so butas of late have seen reluctant
to go close to what they're.
What is disappointing is that we haven't even gone into the loan market.
Not sure what Fulham and Brighton are doing but West Brom have signed
2 or 3 and brought in Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan.
Just hope we have enough to get those 4 or so wins and hopefully
put ourselves beyond reach.

Would you pay a large amount of money plus large monthly outgoings for the next 3 years with uncertainty about your incoming during that time? No you wouldn’t.

Re: Just pay them the money!
But we should have money from the previous windows which wasn't spent so where does it all keep magically disappearing.
We haven't been any good for 6 or 7 windows before you use Covid as an excuse.
Also if that's the case then why are other clubs spending?
Re: Just pay them the money!
I think, given the way the club was recently bought, that we have our explanation for why the money that we had wasn't made available in previous windows.DomBFC1882 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:06 pmBut we should have money from the previous windows which wasn't spent so where does it all keep magically disappearing.

Re: Just pay them the money!
The Stoke lad is a strange one, if he's that good (?) then surely 8-10 million isn't that much of a risk for a PL team who is clearly going to lose Tarkowski in the summer

Re: Just pay them the money!
Completey agree. How much do we expect to get a quality centre half for. We all know he would be Tarks replacement for next season so to not bid up to 12 million which we'd at least get for Tarky is shocking. We clearly think he's good enough otherwise why are we bidding. We paid more for Gibson for crying out loudVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:25 pmThe Stoke lad is a strange one, if he's that good (?) then surely 8-10 million isn't that much of a risk for a PL team who is clearly going to lose Tarkowski in the summer

Re: Just pay them the money!
Now now don't exaggerate it was only £23m, still a dud of a signing though.
I'm fairly relaxed about this window, now if we were a few points worse off I'd be worried, but we're only a few more wins from securing safety, so if it's a choice between paying silly money, or waiting until the summer, then I'll happily wait until the summer.

Wait for what though? If Collins keeps playing as well as he is his price will only increase and if we won't pay it now then we have little chance come the summer.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:29 pmNow now don't exaggerate it was only £23m, still a dud of a signing though.

Did Collins want to come? The narrative from Stoke was that he preferred to play 1st team football. Is this the Gibson effect?

Re: Just pay them the money!
They've turned the bid down and asked for 10 millon - that would suggest they would sell him surely ? I genuinely have zero knowledge about this lad so don't know how I would value him. At some point the white flag waving has to stop or we will be fielding 40 year olds in League 1boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:40 pmSurely the question here is not what he's worth but whether Stoke would want to sell him?

i've not actually seen that they would accept £10m.
I've not seen anyhing to suggest that the player wants a move.
Have Burnley placed a bid ( £2.5m if we go on our track record)?
If we have bid, would this player want to come and sit on our bench?

Re: Just pay them the money!
I've only seen the odd press report (clearly doesn't ever make it factual) that stated they wanted 10 and we've bid nowhere near that the first time, then gone back in around 7 million and they turned it down wanting the 10. As to the player wanting to move is anyone's guess.........but you would have expected his agent to have let Burnley know that he is otherwise why bid ?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:55 pmSame here.

Not much to expect people to post the same stuff in one thread really. Keeps it cleaner. Easier to search. The place is a mess with duplicate threads. I can only think they make a new topic to get more attention.
