Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
Thanks for your concern, No I’m not able to visit in these times.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 11:54 pmSorry to hear that my condolences to you and your family, I know how tough such situations can be at the best of times, as I've had several family bereavements in recent years, but it must be even tougher during the current restrictions, are you even allowed to visit him?.
It's events like this that put football into perspective, of course we're all ardent Clarets, but there is more important things in life, as your post perfectly illustrates.

Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
A second post from me.
Living so far away now, this thread is just a super look at our lives being clarets. Thanks to all those who have, and will post. It’s had me thinking a lot about my life and times being a claret. The different eras, different groups of fans that drift into our lives. Those that sadly leave us to early. Being a football fan, being a Burnley fan, it’s away of life. I look back now at the so called bad old days of division 4. But now have found memories of away days, forged friendships among the sparse 1-2,000 who turned up. One of my angriest days was the Orient game. I was upset it had come to what it was, 90 minutes and it could all be over. But more at thousands who turned up for the first time in many years, “just to be there at the end”. The climb from that day as been steady and thrilling. My favourite season of the 50 I’ve seen, the 4th division championship season, closely followed by the Coyle promotion season. But in general, I’ve loved being a Claret every single one of these 50 years. I’m always proud to be a Claret, and these days, win, lose or draw = happy, never mind, happy. Thanks to everyone who supports our great club. UTC

Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
My dad took me to watch Burnley v Arsenal, late 60’s to watch a 0-0 draw ( at least I think it was) I was about 5. It was love at first sight, literally.
Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
Born in Whalley and childhood in Church/Clayton-le-Moors. Never able to make either nearer Turf Moor than Ewood but Mum and Dad both Clarets. Started getting took to home games in 65/66, night matches the season after for the european game and hooked ever since. Fortunate to start getting to away games in that great 72/73 season. Travelled home and away from then until less so in the 80's with a young family and working lots of weekends. Have enjoyed every step of our recovery since and make 75-80% of games each season. Have managed to hook three out of four children and remain just as committed
As others have said love our small town, underdog tag and can't wait to get back watching live

Sorry to hear that. May he pass peacefully without suffering. Remember the good times which I am sure are plentiful.

Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
Rammyclaret put it well...I was first taken to match by a neighbour when I was probably 9/10 and was instantly hooked on the atmosphere. It was my first ever game as my dad wasn't really an 'active' football fan. Started going regularly when I could then got my first season ticket when I was 14. Fast forward a few years and then it became about the whole matchday experience, the away days with mates, meeting new people through your love of the Clarets...I, like others, have had highs and lows being a Claret but I wouldn't exchange it for the world. I was out in Thailand when we made it into the PL the first time round....I was finally able to watch them on the TV lol....when I finally returned to the UK about 3 years ago I was finally able to watch our beloved Clarets in the PL in the flesh....WOW.....just love it, UTPLC
Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
I was brought up in a Burnley supporting house....my Dad was born in Clowbridge. I was 6 in 1960 so a bit of a glory hunter I suppose (though I feel that I have paid for it since in terms of matchday pain). I actually wanted to go before Dad would take me...it was a bit of a trek from Castleford in the early 1960s. Regular away trips in the 1980s should have put me off the game for life.....but had the opposite effect as one or two other posters on here will know. Like many others....can't wait to be back on the Turf.

Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
Born in Nelson in 1963, lived in Burnley until the age of four, we moved to Green Howarth (my 1st teacher Miss Smith married Martin Dobson). Then moved again to Forton aged 6 and then to Lancaster by the age of ten. My Great Uncle took me on the Turf on visits back to see family as my Dad wasn't interested in football. As a teenager I either caught the National Express bus or the train when my Mum wasn't going to see family. A year in Heywood with my Dad (I went on Gigg Lane quite a few times with mates from school) had me travelling from Bury to Burnley on the National Express or with Ellen Smith coaches via Rochdale and Tod. Next came nearly 8 years in the RAF on leaving school, based down south and NI, so used to travel solo to away games when I wasn't playing football or working. I came out of the RAF in March 1987 and been Lancaster based ever since. I used to take some grief at school for being a Burnley fan, and more so in the RAF when we were rubbish in the 1980's. I've seen most of this country following Burnley and wouldn't have missed any of it.

Re: Why are you a Burnley fan?
Born in Singapore but moved to Barlick pre-school.
Neither side of the family was interested in the beautiful game, indeed my Dad's side insisted that Rugby League was football and 'fax was the team.
They couldn't kid me though 'cos I was born lucky; I was a Claret.
