Seems those achievements are quickly forgotten as a lack of investment in first team players over recent transfer windows comes home to roost
Becker bought July 2018
Robertson July 2017
van Dijk Jan 2018
Matip July 2016
Wijnaldum July 2016
Chamberlain August 2017
Fabinho May 2018
Keita June 2018
Shaqiri July 2018
Mane June 2016
Salah June 2017
Firmino 2016
Add to the above people like Origi and Milner
With the exception of maybe Alcantara, no starting players bought for almost 3 years and some have been there even longer
Yes they are at opposite ends of the league table to us, and still spent loads of cash, but both Carragher and Neville were yesterday pointing out that the lack of improving the starting eleven in recent years has gone a long way to explaining their current demise. Focussed in also on the fact that their starting eleven are playing most weeks because "squad" players are not at the same skill levels
The purse is clearly not full at Liverpool, and one would expect quite a few of theses players need to be moved on before further spending is allowed
Klopp is obviously displeased with the situation as could be Dyche
For Dyche, the situation may be seen by him as more long term in lack of funds, hence giving extended contracts to the likes of Long, JBG, Cork, Lowton, Barnes and in the case of Pieters the one year extension, because he doesn't see any improvements on such players being forthcoming as potential new signings
As good servants to the club these players are still appreciated, but if at the end of this season the only outgoings to reduce the wage bill will be the likes of Bardsley, Brady and Dunne will we have the cash spare (transfer fees and wages) to improve our starting eleven. I've left Tarks and Gibson out of the conversation as we will at least get money for them which will go towards their direct replacements
We are an ageing squad and some of those need replacing/improving on this summer
Other similarity between BFC and Liverpool is that both are now owned by Americans
Are these people more cautious with their money than other foreign owners who have taken clubs close to deep financial problems
I am using Liverpool as an example and sorry to all their fans, but I would not shed too many tears if you finished 5th
