We'd just eventually rented a VHS player our first.
School Holidays Mum a busy teacher rented 3 videos our first ever to keep us quiet while she worked in another room.

Fantasia.
Tom & Jerry
and the Dear Hunter (which I'm sure she thought was Bambi - probably asked for the Dear Film).
3 Kids under 9.
2 got board half way into Fantasia.
I put on the Dear Hunter.

Imagine Mums face when she walked in quite a while later... but after a protest I was allowed to watch the end of the film...

Followed by Tom & Jerry.

Brilliant film

The best thing Harold Wilson ever did was refuse American pleas to join in the disaster that was Vietnam.

I saw some guy Shoot a Deer Somewhere in the great out doors...left the room briefly....Returned and I found the film..... fast forward in Vietnam. Now I haven't smoked Draw in a lot of years........but that film suddenly moved a little to fast for my liking.

One of the all time greats. Although a huge fan of De Niro's, Christopher Walken IMHO topped an amazing quartet of performances (RDN, CW, Meryl Street and John Savage).

Re. Cimino: he peaked too early. He was only 38 when he made it and he could have stopped there. Unfortunately, many people will think of "Heaven's Gate" when hearing his name. Hollywood is merciless and the disaster that was HG did for him.

That said, with time some reviewers have praised "Heaven's Gate". Nothing can be done about the money it lost but people can still the film.

I don’t think you’ve got much chance if The Deer Hunter is too fast paced for you

Classic film, brilliant performances, although I am not sure it stands the test of time. Nowadays you would not get away with such long scenes that do not develop the plot - and you cant help thinking (having been conditioned by modern approaches) ..hurry it along here. I don't remember how dumb the other friends were (although that is meant to be the point) - annoyingly dumb. Also, the roulette scenes were ridiculously far fetched - so well done and acted that you don't see how ridiculous it is when you are watching the film for the first time. No basis in reality but suppose Russian roulette is a metaphor for what America was doing with its young people, sending them to a war in a foreign place.

I did a road trip from Boston out to Indianapolis and back to New York a few years ago. I stayed one night just to the South of Pittsburgh, just a few miles from Clairton where the USA scenes of the film were set. It’s not changed that much.

He was certainly in some classic movies ....my favourite was Dog Day Afternoon with Al Pacino.
