I imagine it’s a very short list and all will have cost or be worth well north of £30m.

Some of the disrespect he gets on here is a disgrace. An absolute quality striker. Undroppable, which fortunately Dyche knows.

I found it highly amusing when the pundits on the BBC were saying what a threat our two strikers, Wood and Vydra, are. Then they told us we were the third lowest scoring side in the division!
Wood was excellent today, all we want from him - goals, assists, and a general nuisance for the Wolves defence. I don't think though that he would get in any other Prem side unless they adjust their playing style.

Re: Chris wood
He’s a good player, great even when in our set up and we play to his strengths, and I’m a fan I really am. But for those of you saying “can’t believe the grief he was getting early in the season” you need to wake up. He was getting that grief because he wasn’t just not scoring, he was looking laboured and disinterested. ‘Twas like playing with ten men at times.... Let’s keep some perspective. He wasnt absolutely dogshit early in the season, and he isn’t zlatan now. Crazily, earlier in the season some were suggesting they’d wished we’d kept Bamford and let woody go.
Be interesting to see who (if anyone) has a sniff around come the summer...
Been superb for a good few games now, and he suits us and the way we set up. Very glad he plays for us. His partnership with vyds looks promising too.

I’d happily have all of them at Burnley, except one.....

Surprised to see both Dande and CCC place Wood higher than Ings “ in their lifetime.” So, yes he has scored a few more goals, but Ings’ all round game would make me play him before Wood.

Re: Chris wood
How many games have each of that list of 10+ goals a season in the last four played? Would love to see the strike rate comparison. Similarly, and for balance, how many goals per number of team chances created?

Re: Chris wood
Yep. Both really good players no doubt. But for us Wood has been far better at this level than ings was for us.
Also overall wood edges ings for me. Don’t get me wrong. Two totally different players and both very good strikers. But for injuries who knows how good ings may have been at this level. (For me even with his injuries it’s fair to say post injury he has fulfilled his potential.)
As great as ings was last season, Wood for me is far more of a threat especially for a side like ours.
But for Burnley at this level not even close. Woods achieved way more for us.

Wood has a better conversion rate than Ings. (Based on chances). Unsure vs the others but I bet he’s ahead of all of them.

Re: Chris wood
Just done a quick check against all on this list. And thrown in Aubameyang and Aguero just for good measure.
Guess who has the most accurate strike rate?
Correct. The one who wouldn’t get in any other premier league side according to many on here. Yep. Chris Wood.

Re: Chris wood
No ones said he wouldn’t get in ANY other PL side tho have they? Just scanned thru the thread and can’t find anything specific. There are a good few teams he would get in for sure on his current form but you said he’d walk into any one of the PL teams, and you were wrong. There’s quite a few he wouldn’t. Even the crappest of the so called big six wouldn’t start him ahead of Kane/Son. Even outside the big six he wouldn’t start for Everton ahead of DC-L.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Apr 26, 2021 12:12 amJust done a quick check against all on this list. In fairness he has had some stupid stick on here recently, he was even labelled the worst centre forward in the league when he isn't scoring (whatever that means) but there is always an overreaction with some.
Look at the match thread various comments about how strong our bench is, 2 weeks ago (when ignoring the injuries) we had a bench that was an embarrassment and highlighted our bad our recruitment is.
Back to Chris Wood, yesterday was fantastic for him and the club, he is the best striker at the club by a huge margin which is why if he hasn't scored in 3 he still gets picked and rightly so

Playing as well as he's ever played in a Burnley shirt since he has been back in the team after injury. Looks the complete centre forward. Well done to him!

Just looked at the match again and late in the game Taylor was upfield and down on the ground. Traore received the ball midway in our half and started a run but someone was defending and judged a perfect tackle. It was Chris Wood.

"Hat trick on ANZAC day."
Now that IS symbolic. I'm sure it meant even more to Chris and his family.
Lest we forget the sacrifices the Australians and New Zealanders made for us and the rest of the world.

Someone needs to save this thread to use in evidence next season... when the same posters are calling him fit to burn. I remember some of the nonsense posted about him earlier in the season.

Dyche summed him up so well with his post match comments about when he plays tough. I remember the goal he scored for Leicester against us, bullied our defenders and scored with a worldie.

Re: Chris wood
Agree with the above, especially the last sentence. Since he returned from an injury he has looked a very good player but it wasn't that long ago he was really struggling in front of goal( WBA at home comes to mind). It's transient stuff for a striker and I'm just thinking back a couple of weeks to the impact made by Saint Maximin and plaudits he received after his cameo against us. Has he continued to do what he did that day to teams he's played against since? I don't think so. But his contribution that day has possibly helped his team in terms of points gained to ease their relegation fears. He can't possibly play like he did against us every week and neither can Chris Wood score hat-tricks every week. So it's perhaps worth considering the effect strikers have on their teammates when they are on top of their form, no matter how long or short that might be.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 2:06 pmIn the form of his life.
I commented last week that he’d been good against Newcastle and last week was the best I’d seen him for us. Today was another level again. It won’t last forever but let’s enjoy it while it does.

Re: Chris wood
Very good - not just for his goal poaching but for his all-round play.
Set pieces, target man, hold-up play, high pressing, defensive duties and opposition set pieces (especially corners). Also seldom injured, rarely booked, never sent off, doesn’t cheat, intelligent on camera and popular with his team mates.
A good professional footballer and a credit to the club (as are most of SD’s team).

He wasn't scoring, looking laboured and disinterested, and we looked like we were playing with 10 men for a reason, not because of Chris.bobinho wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 8:37 pmHe’s a good player, great even when in our set up and we play to his strengths, and I’m a fan I really am. It's the same with the Vyds versus Ash argument. Our style of play altered dramatically at home to Villa. We got players in the box, played the ball in earlier and pressed around the opposition box. Prior to the Villa game it was defend, defend, defend and then play a long ball hoping for the best.
Apart from looking short of match practice for a couple of games post injury, Chris has been fine, but he's now enjoying the benefits of that change in team ethos. I don't doubt that if we had the players fit to play as we are now all season, Chris could have been pushing for 20 goals. I'd be amazed if a lot of clubs around us aren't looking at making a pitch for Wood. A striker that can guarantee 10 plus goals a season in the prem is worth a fortune.
