I looked at the replay... Brentford just kinda stood in his way, the keeper either needs to push the player out of the way or flap their arms and fall on the ground to get the call.

If it stops the media love in with Leeds I can live with it

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
No idea how Arteta has lasted 2 years, 8th in both seasons and they won 5 games on the bounce to squeak 8th last time.

Enjoyed that. Game flowed much better. Not a dirty game but there would have been more cards in the past. At season end we’ll find it is to the benefit of the top6.
Arteta struggling.

As a neutral I enjoyed that.
Brentford look like they have enough to stay up, but Arsenal are embarrassing considering the riches they've had over the years. Those who say SD couldn't manage a top side are mad if they think he isn't better than Arteta. It's surely only the anti English bias of foreign owners that would stop him.

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
Typical Arsenal, weak, no back bone and think they can just pass the ball in. It's the Arsenal way that they all love that Wenger, the most over-rated manager in the history of the Prem, has instilled in the club and that they think must continue! The last time they won The Prem was when? The Invincible years, many moons ago. I wish we would stop thinking of them as a big club anymore. They pay over the rate for average players and everyone automatically thinks they are therefore good players. A superficial, weak club who'll do nothing this season.

This is what gets to me:
We are one game into a PL season (is it 380 games in total), and already talking about our relegation rivals.
How do you pessimists get by? Enjoy what you watch.

Can’t say I noticed it, but I generally think the protection afforded to GK’s is ridiculous. Won’t be disappointed if that changes this season too.AshevilleNCClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 9:55 pmI looked at the replay... Re: Brentford v Arsenal
And as we need 36 points to guarantee safety it helps if we play more teams that are low in confidence.
Last Season was a bit different for us in that we dropped more points than normal against the bottom sides. Beating them allows us more wriggle room.

Anyway, it doesn't matter what we say on here. It's not like wanting Brentford to beat Arsenal somehow made the result come about.

Brentford with a very impressive showing on their PL debut. I think they've got the strongest chance of the newly promoted sides of staying up and I can see them achieving it.
As for Arsenal - bloody hell.

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
I cannot believe how bad Arsenal were. It looked like they had only met each other for the first time this afternoon.
Re: Brentford v Arsenal
How bad are Arsenal. I can't believe how bad they are and how far they are from where they think they are. Brentford showed nothing more than Championship endeavour. Arteta looks like he has lost before kick-off.

What a performance by one of the EPL recognized top six teams. Haha

Turn up, have a go at em and see what happens.
Saw it last season from the few teams that had a go at city. Big clubs and big teams are used to smaller clubs and teams turning up purely to limit damage and as a result of that they have honed their skills to counter it easily. Have a go at em and they are like rabbits in the headlights….
Wonder what we will do?

So you'd rather play like Norwich and beat Man City 3-2 and get relegated?bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:33 pmTurn up, have a go at em and see what happens.

Or you'd rather play like Watford and beat Liverpool 3-0 and guess what?
Get relegated.

Not a good result for us but I must say it was great to see proper fans celebrating and not a bunch of hooray Henrys and Henriettas.

Isn't that what we did against arsenal last season? Put them under lots of pressure so they made mistakes.bobinho wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:33 pmTurn up, have a go at em and see what happens.

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
I wonder who's in charge of transfers at Arsenal. They really don't have a good team for the amount of money they spend. I don't think Arteta is a good manager but having the team they do doesn't help.

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
No. I wouldn’t rather do either of those two things. But they aren’t the only two options available are they? If you get one you don’t necessarily get the other, but I suspect you know that….
I’d rather turn up and have a real go at city and Liverpool because if we do and get the extra points, and all the other games remain the same, we finish two or three places higher in the league. At the moment, we turn up against city hoping it’s going to be less than the usual 5.
We normally get a spanking…. For this one fixture, this one game, I’d like to see us try a different approach, because tipping up like we have been doing gets us absolutely nothing.
We won’t be relegated because city spank us, it’s not a season defining result. I’d just like to see us have a go for a change.

Re: Brentford v Arsenal
Yep. Wouldnt it be good if we cajoled and harassed city in the same way.
City love having a lot of the ball.
We are happy for them to have it.
Trouble is, they are excellent in possession, they make better decisions and therefore better passes when they have it and very quickly out teams like us to the sword. I’d like us to press quicker and higher and actually try to get the ball off them.
Yeah, I know it sounds crazy, but I’m not so crackers as to think we can out football them, id like us to not allow them to work the ball around so easily and freely. Get in their faces, get amongst em and make them think. That, I’m absolutely sure, we can do, because I have seen us do it with other teams.
Re: Brentford v Arsenal
Slightly off topic but how good was it to see the young down syndrome lad's face as he celebrated with the players and Thomas Frank, fantastic to have the crowds back

I agree with most of that, however to state Wenger is the most over-rated manager in PL history is quite frankly bonkers.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:11 pmTypical Arsenal, weak, no back bone and think they can just pass the ball in. And just look at how far they've dipped since they gave AW the boot, yes his last few years weren't great, but compared to the dross being served up now they were a major force who always made the top 4.
Spot on that Arsenal will do nothing this season though.

Wenger who changed English football and not once failed to finish top 4 during his time at Arsenal and won everything, I think, in English football and had teams playing some absolutely fantastic football, including an unbeaten League season?diamondpocket wrote: ↑Fri Aug 13, 2021 10:11 pmTypical Arsenal, weak, no back bone and think they can just pass the ball in. That’s why they wanted rid of him, when they lost their Champions League spot.

I bet they wish they still had him at the club.
They only have themselves to blame. Emery has proven repeatedly that he’s a good coach also.
Arteta is a million miles away, though.

Honestly I think he'd reached the natural end of his time at Arsenal and they needed a refresh.
They just went about it wrongly, but so did Utd at first and even now OGS really needs to start winning stuff after the money spent.
It has been amusing to watch Arsenal flounder though after their Wenger out stuff.
