I’m with you on Barkley. Doesn’t seem to be able to hold down a place. Not aware of any link with him.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 10:31 pmThe player Aston Villa didn’t play more often than not and who they didn’t buy with the Grealish windfall, are you sure?
Think he could well be another Drinkeater for whoever takes a punt on him, personally.

Don’t know whether it’s been mentioned on this thread but Troy Deeney has signed for Birmingham on a two year deal.

I would expect if SD has even given him a second thought he’d speak to Moyes and Dean Smith. Not impossible they would recommend him, just not at all sure such a move would work out, and it’s a very expensive gamble.burnley007 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 10:35 pmThere is an absolute world beater there, maybe SD could get that out of him, I'd love to give Sean the chance with top players.

If SD could get him sorted on a week to week basis he'd improve our midfield massively....

Everton still haven't had a midfielder as good as him despite spending millions and millions.

I'd take Jack Wilshire on a free with a heavily weighted deal dependent on playing time long before Ross Barkley on any sort of deal

I’ll accept any other lazy tropes that come my way regarding swapping fivers for tenners or being a good boy at Christmas with good grace.

This window has been a far better window than most recent ones.
I'm glad we still have Tarks and Pope and McNeil. I had heard on the grapevine that West Ham had enquired about Wood too so to still have him at the club to is brilliant.
I think what I would like to see if just more choice in terms of lineups and a bit more competition for places.
We needed someone like Cornet that will push others and be able to challenge for places and I think one or 2 more in that space would be a great pre-season.
We know Collins is a replacement for Tarks and Hennessey is back up for Pope. Both of which are quality and capable pro's by the look of it. But when we need to change something up this season, we are still limited from a creativity/pace perspective.

What some people overlook is that a casual performer (when he feels like it or says he's fit) still occupies a 25th of the allowed squad.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:00 pmWhat, really ! You would take qa player who spends more time injured than being available ?

Yes but Wilshire was a good player but that was quite a time back. He hasn't pulled up trees anywhere since in fact he has hardly pulled on his boots at all. Wilshire would be a gamble way to far.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:03 pmWhat some people overlook is that a casual performer (when he feels like it or says he's fit) still occupies a 25th of the allowed squad.

Now that would have been good. I’ll check with the oracle, but I don’t think we’ve ever made 4 signings on the first day a transfer window opens.

You can't build Rome in 1 day, or a football team in 1 window. It's progression and damn good progression at that.

He's played over 70 times in the last 3 seasons which is probably more than a fair few of our squad. He barely played in 17/18 but in the two preceding seasons he played in 74 out of 76 games.
I would suggest 220 Premier League appearances in the last 8 seasons is not the record of someone who doesnt play very often

Injured or not, if he's not pulling up any trees in the championship then I can't see him doing it here.

me neither, and I'm not advocating us signing him, but if I had a choice between Wilshire on 10k per week + performance related bonuses (he plays) as opposed to paying Chelsea a 2-3 million loan fee plus the maximum wages for Barkley who also hasn't pulled up many trees I'd be more tempted by Wilshire given our finances. No doubt at all, both players are good players when on form and fit.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:35 pmHe's just spent half a season at Bournemouth and they decided against offering him a new deal.
