How much power did Sir Alex Ferguson have ?
Just reading the ‘International Duty’ topic and come across this comment by elwaclaret ….
‘Agree, It is why all Fergie’s players used to get their old injuries treated on the week of international call ups. While we just dreamed of having ‘current’ internationals.’
This is absolutely bang on I remember Man Utd players having slight knocks that he said was worse than they was so they couldn’t travel to international games, when in reality United had a big game coming up which he wanted them to be rested for.
Then when he pulled United out of the FA Cup and made a mockery of the competition, I don’t think it’s ever recovered since that. No manager now would have the POWER to pull a team out of a major competition.
The refs were sh1t scared off him too, countless penalties and stupid amounts of injury time added on, which helped because they was brilliant at scoring late.
After all that though he’s still in my eyes the greatest manager ever to be involved in football and a leader of men that we will never see the likes off again, old school ethos which is gone in the game today.
So the question is … how much power and influence did the man have in his heyday ??

Brilliant manager who struck fear into officials and opponents the majority of the time.
Of course they managed to bend/break rules and they always seemed to get the extra time they needed for many wins etc.
It's worth noting though that it's always been mentioned that he has had the time for any manager who rang him for advice, inc our very own Sean Dyche.

The FA asked Manchester United to pull out of the FA Cup and play in the Club World Cup because they didn’t want to rock the boat with FIFA as they were bidding for the 2006 World Cup.
