I humbly suggest your not right up with the times, it should not be used.
Says who? Your mum? What a load of guff.

As I say, if you use the word Pakistani to describe a British person with Asian heritage, or an Asian person who isn’t Pakistani then of course the term will be offensive and, ridiculously ignorant. But people from Pakistan are referred to as Pakistanis.

Until they can prove they meet the standards required, apparently. With around six months until they are due to host one, I suspect the ban will have been served.

Unless they actually reallocate the games to other grounds and transfer tickets it feels like a bit of an empty gesture.
You would hope the ban would be lengthy and not until some heads have rolled

Hopefully but the wording seems quite vague and with no set time. With a considerable length of time before there will be any impact it feels a bit like the ECB being seen to come down hard while knowing the they won't need to impose it. Time will tell and I hope I wrong.

Maybe when their actual nationality is unknown. I'm no expert on the history of the region but I think calling an Indian a Pakistani and vice versa can cause offence.
When I used the real life example I was not talking about the lady. We were talking in general.

Not wanting to take away from the thread but provide a real example from a blue chip company.
A senior manager who came up through the shop floor and knew many lads still on the shop floor.
He worked with a man of Asian origin for years and as a senior manager did venture onto the shop floor.
One occasion he met with his old buddy and they had some banter.

One shop floor worker reported the manager who was investigated for racism.
Both the Asian origin guy and the manager were surprised at the allegation and both said it was their normal banter and neither thought it was offensive or racist. The manager was warned about future conduct and not to repeat the offence.
I saw him in his office after this happened and as a Union official he discussed it with me. I just told him it’s the perception of the observer, if they think it’s racist, then it’s judged as being so, even if the parties involved don’t think so.
Thing is both parties might not see it as a racist comment, but if someone else does you can be in serious trouble. The same goes for sexist comments.

I would suggest the opposite.
I was conscious of it and tried to help and guide people to stop doing it.
I was seriously unpopular at work for stopping bullying , racism and sexism.

Just saying, people might be surprised if they get pulled up for saying it.

“ of Asian heritage” ? Wtf is that horsesh1t term meant to mean . Talk about tongue tied liberals terrified of offence . Unless it’s a 3rd person term when we don’t know a persons nationality it’s preposterous. Asian is absolutely fine and most 2nd/3rd gen Pakistanis I know refer to themselves as British or British asian and can’t abide visiting there grandparents homeland

Suspension of test status seemed the logical and right thing to do.

As for Michael Vaughan comes ass no shock he managed to rush out a statement detailing how much he liked Rafiq, thought he was a very good cricketer and a good lad.

Has Rafiq mentioned the subject of compo/damages if not it will be long before he does? The Player gets sacked, the player remembers he was called a naughty name, the player disregards the fact he also called someone a naughty name, the player claims he was offended, the player wants cash. It is how the modern world functions.

I’m lucky enough to know Michael Vaughan and I can honestly say he’s a top bloke. Never has a bad word to say about anybody, yes his commentary can sometimes seem a little clever, but I would be utterly amazed and in disbelief if these allegations are true.

To me it seems this player has realised his initially accusations have been proven, and he’s now falsely trying to drag other players into the situation, no doubt improving his out of court settlement.

Just my opinion of course…

I think Vaughan was included in the initial allegations and was questioned as part of the enquiry. If I've understood that correctly it is not a case of trying to drag others in after the event.

Well it is Rafiq who has created all the nonsense by claiming to be a victim of a bit of "banter" With all the problems this country has at the moment a bit of name calling seems pretty trivial. I was going to say "small fish" but the Francophiles would have screamed racist.

"Nonsense"
"Trivial"

Not sure what the fish comment is about but 'racist' is probably right.

In my career around 15-20 years ago, I worked in West Yorkshire amongst many folk of south asian descent. I've been part of banter both on the receiving end and the dishing out, some stuff of which has been pretty close to the bone in terms of race and religion, often surrounding stereotypical perceptions of each others cultures. Some of it even self deprecating from all parties. Times have changed though and what was acceptable then would not be acceptable now, whether the 'banter' is taken in good humour or not.

I can say that not once have I ever heard the stuff that Rafiq has accused YCCC of, certainly never heard anyone call someone P*^i in 'banter'.

Up until Covid hit I used to play footy every Friday in Manningham Bradford with a mixed group and as Darthlaw said there is plenty of banter and close to the born stuff from everyone but the idea that we would call some a P*ki as banter, in anger or any other reason is just a non starter.

We are all very good friends but I think if someone had used that language they'd have been kicked out of the group straight away.

Your comment in itself is disrespectful, a slur and could cause Gary some mental issues in the future should he be unlucky enough to read it. People should get their own houses in order before criticising others.

Your comment in itself is disrespectful, a slur and could cause Gary some mental issues in the future should he be unlucky enough to read it. People should get their own houses in order before criticising others.

Dont know Vaughan but from reading Kevin Petersons autobiography he was happy having bully boys in his squad and would happily side with them, this is probably more of what this is, the old school way of supposedly building up young men but what we now call bullying

Well at least the club have a new chair, as if we didn't know that was going to happen, Baron Patel of Bradford, not to be confused with Baron Patel of Blackburn but no sour grapes I guess I would be as welcome in Islamabad it adds to bring in new cultures I'd take a bit of Christianity with me the masses would love it.
