Ah your referring to some of the players he signed then? Which really makes his record and performance for us much worse then in context with such talent at his disposal.
He had more important stuff going on in his life than Burnley, we all know that and the majority of us can accept it because we'd be the same.

He started a much needed clear out of the mutinous senior players who did for Laws and set us on a better path before he left.
We even got paid £4 million for him I think it was, he didn't cause a fuss, left quietly and as far as I'm aware has never said a bad word about us.

It all worked out well in the end, can't see an issue tbh

Your arguments going off on a tangent. Almost as if you are trying to convince yourself that Howe was a good manager for us because you liked him.

Facts are he wasn’t. He failed with us and we were playing awful impotent football. There’s nothing more to it.

Personally don’t get all the hype around him. If Newcastle were to appoint him great, it makes them more likely to be relegated IMO.

That's not an entirely fair analysis. he could spot a decent player and brought some really good ones to Burnley.
Perhaps didn't have what it needed to manage Burnley, though.

He did a job, helped us on our way, nothing more, nothing less.
He had more important personal issues going on, as I and others have said over the years, which understandably resulted in him wanting to leave and being unable to give us 100%.

I get that, it seems you don't, because you have this inherent dislike of him and you don't want to consider any mitigating circumstances.

Will Newcastle get relegated with him?
We shall see, but as their squad needs some work doing to it, they've got a manager with an eye for a player so it could work out well in the long term.

Dear oh dear, there’s little to answer to that , though to twist that into supposedly making fun at Howe’s mum death is pure cowardice. Imagine saying that face to face eh?
You're making fun of Howe being homesick and leaving here without knowing anything about it, his wife wasn't the reason he left or felt homesick, his mother died and he had a young child.

Don't think the Newcastle fans will be too excited about Eddie, they have a bigger chip on their shoulder than Leeds...and that's saying something. If they give him a chance he could do really well but I think they were expecting someone like Pep to come knocking on the door after the takeover

I’ve worked with people from the Middle East. A very fickle bunch IMO. Unless there’s immediate success, Eddie will be gone like a shot. If he’d had any sense he would have stayed well clear.

Atletico at the top of La Liga to Newcastle in a relegation fight.

That's gonna be an awful lot of money...as in hundreds of ££ a week.

Maybe not now but assuming they stay up it would be a decent move for him this summer if he wants to move back to England.

Trippier is clearly keen to return to the Premier League. Newcastle can blow Athletico (incidentally they aren't top of the league) out of the water money wise. Not sure it would happen in January but wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

Yeah he may well be keen to return to the PL, but he's currently first choice at Atletico and competing for trophies on various fronts.

He isn't going to be doing that at Newcastle and ever since he left City his career has always gone upwards with each step.

Newcastle is a very big step down footballing wise, I'm not sure he'd be willing to do that yet.

Interesting interview with Howe, it rings true and accords with my understanding but I felt then and I feel now that if we were top 6 at the time he wouldn’t have left, despite his family tragedy. It felt like a “jump before I am pushed” situation and deep down, at the time, he wasn’t good enough for us. Nice guy, but you don’t get promoted for that.

Whether he is now a decade older and far better as a result, who knows?

Presumably there were no bad feelings about Jason Tindall taking over at Bournemouth when Eddie left. Perhaps Jason has realised that he prefers being a number two after his stint in the hot seat.

Apparently it's not a done deal yet because Jason isn't happy with his terms.

I agree. No hard feelings for Howe, much in the same way I don't about Cotterill.

Both were pretty average in terms of results, but both signed a number of players for us that give the next manager the good foundations to build on.

Has Howe had to deal with a Director of football before?

Former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo has emerged as the leading contender to become Newcastle United's new director of football....

I cant decide if this is Howe being loyal to his mate, or the tail wagging the dog.

After Celtic, i think Howe needs to be careful he isnt dismissed as being too difficult

Also, it seems like just because the Saudis do have a lot of cash, they arent just about to splurge it willy nilly.....

Could well be a wake up call for the more expectant of the Geordie faithful

Pretty much agree with this. Cotterill's reign ended very lamely and Howe, at best, was just treading water. I was at Crystal Palace for his last game when were were 0-2 up in the first half but never did I think we might get some sort of result out of the game.

Not as good as Emery would have been

A much more sensible choice then quite a few that were mentioned would have been

Be interesting to see if he's got the players in place to play like Bournemouth going forward, but not to play like Bournemouth defending

I think this is a fantastic appointment....for us.

Just don't think he's the right man for a relegation scrap. He did a great job at Bournemouth...but was given years to build things up there.

Time will tell and all that.

Just hope Utd keep hold of OGS til the end of December

Thing is, he's got lots of experience of a relegation scrap, and compared to some of the names being mentioned, that is (unfortunately) a relatively good move for them

I pay little credence to all those on here (and on other social media platforms) who think he won't be able to cope with it btw

To state the obvious this could go either way. Howe /Tindell has struggled to organise the defence at either Burnley or Bournemouth. Will he get the respect he needs to manage?

One thing I still think Howe lacks is a firm chin. Howe could turn Newcastle around, but I think given a couple of dodgy results they could easily capitulate.

I think the pressure will prove too great and Newcastle could well be relegated as a result.

A baffling appointment for me. His last job (where he was allegedly a perfect fit) saw him relegated despite having a decent transfer fund.

I can’t believe any big star name players would be particularly enticed by working with him.

The Burnley job was far too big for Eddie as he couldn't manager our expectations and he has made a serious error taking on Newcastle with his huge unforgiving fan base
This will end in tears.

Strange appointment for Newcastle they have downgraded from Bruce IMO.

Pleased in a sense that I think it makes Newcastle’s relegation fight a lot harder for them now.

My doubts about Howe would be that Newcastle are a team with decent attacking players and a ropey defence because they just aren't organised. And based on what we know about Howe at Burnley, those are not problems that he specialises in fixing.

They discussed Howes dodgy defence's on talksport earlier and they're wondering if he's spotted that glaring issue during his time away from management.

Sometimes managers, in all areas, become defeated/beaten and no longer have the motivational ability etc to dig themselves out of a hole.

Bruce looked like that kind of man.
A new man will come in with fresh energy, ideas etc.

That's why Big Sam constantly gets jobs, same with Warnock, they have an energy about them that transfers to the players most of the time and is great for a quick, short term boost to get a team out of trouble.

A desperation appointment in my opinion. The realisation it isn't easy to suddenly lash money in search of success, especially when you're in very real danger of relegation.

What a bizarre appointment... all that money and banging on about the future. They've gone backwards from Bruce.

I don’t think he is any better than Bruce and unless by some miracle he is a brilliant immediate success he will more than likely be binned as soon as a top European manager becomes available.

He has 2 relatively easy games at home (Brentford and Norwich) before the end of November. A dream start for Our Eddie ? ;)
The battle of the new manager bounce v Norwich.

The Geordies will be expecting 6 points from those two. If they win neither they will be under real pressure when we turn up.

He’s the new Head Coach, not Manager.

He'll be far more positive than Bruce though. It was their negative setup/approach which did for him. Most fans can accept their team losing as long as they feel like they've given it a real go.
