Waiting for an insurance call back, so...

Post by BayArea54 » Mon Nov 15, 2021 7:52 pm

Hello all. I thought I would join the active bunch on this message board after being a viewer only for many years. there just doesn't seem to be enough white hairs on here.....
I have followed Burnley for about 20 years now. As a US Left Coaster I really knew nothing about the team and its history until a friend in the UK brought back a Burnley shirt I used as a goalie shirt for the youth soccer team I was coaching at that time. As I delved into the what and where of the team and city, I enjoyed learning about the symbiotic relationship of town and club prevalent throughout the country. I continue to appreciate the history and financials posts as much as the talk of the play as well. I was also fortunate to go to a game in 2015 after one of my daughters and her husband were transferred to London and we came over to visit; specifically the 1-1 tie at Stamford Bridge.

The one memory I like to reflect on once in a while when the "noise" on the board gets a bit tiresome is a short video post of a young person coming on the field after the game that guaranteed the last PL promotion. The young lad's face and body told you everything you needed to know and recognize about the true and positive passion within a fan base, his fists clenched as his arms moved in rhythm with his jumping up and down as he ran on the field with an expression of that pure joy expressed and uncontained that we tend to lose as we get older. I thought a reminder of the positive side of our relationship with the sport might be a brief respite from the drudgery of another, seemingly interminable, international break. Keep posting all y'all, it is an interesting microcosmic read on Western hominid society.

I’m not sure about not enough white hairs on the board, I’d say it’s quite the opposite

Welcome to this board and the Clarets family. Glad you 'get,' the close and living link between town and club. Its this link that we are trying to protect against the billionaire high rollers who buy clubs for their own personal aggrandisement. I hope ALK capital have managed to capture this community feel in their marketing strategy, inviting people worldwide to be part of it.

It's pleasing to know that you think at least some people on here can be considered part of the Western hominid society, or any hominid society for that matter.

Some of us are actually from Yorkshire, which as you will appreciate, breeds an altogether more superior intelligence and handsome look. Generally we're all much more than the general 5'6" of the locals.
