Burnley Women have beaten Durham today 2-0 in the Women's FA Cup First Round, a scalp as well due to Durham playing in a league higher than Burnley, Durham 2nd in the Women's Championship and Burnley 6th in the Northern Premier Division, one step lower than Durham.

Re: Burnley Women
Brilliant win. Hadn’t realised they were in the league above. Hopefully a good confidence booster for the whole team.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 2:56 pmBurnley Women have beaten Durham today 2-0 in the Women's FA Cup First Round, a scalp as well due to Durham playing in a league higher than Burnley, Durham 2nd in the Women's Championship and Burnley 6th in the Northern Premier Division, one step lower than Durham.

Re: Burnley Women
That's quite a scalp for the ladies to take, and a good cup run could really help put our women's team truly on the map.

Re: Burnley Women
A great win, but they were playing Durham Celestria, a different team from lower down the pyramid.claretburns wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 2:56 pmBurnley Women have beaten Durham today 2-0 in the Women's FA Cup First Round, a scalp as well due to Durham playing in a league higher than Burnley, Durham 2nd in the Women's Championship and Burnley 6th in the Northern Premier Division, one step lower than Durham.
A result against Durham would have been an amazing result

Ahh thanks for the correction, I just saw Durham and presumed it was the higher level team.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 3:44 pmA great win, but they were playing Durham Celestria, a different team from lower down the pyramid.

Re: Burnley Women
They are currently 2nd in the same league, only lost once all season. A tough fixture, but you expect them to get tougher in the cups.diamondpocket wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 9:15 pmis that a difficult tie? same league? or lower/higher?
Our current form is very good after a slow start to the season, so should be interesting.

Re: Burnley Women
My granddaughter plays for Chorley Women, who are in Division One North (a league below Burnley). They too had a cracking win in the Ladies FA Cup 1st Round beating Middlesbrough Ladies (who play in the same league as Burnley). They were 3-1 down in the second half but came back to make it 4-4 at full time and then went on to win the penalty shoot out after extra time.
They are now at home to Bradford City Women (who are in the same league as Chorley) in the Second Round Proper. What's interesting is the prize money which is paid to the winning team in each round. If you win round 2, its a £1000! Oh, and yes, she is still aching all over from Sunday's game!!

Re: Burnley Women
Not sure on the budgets or wages that are paid, if any. But I remember seeing an Alan Pace interview, possibly before the start of the season in August, when he was saying the ladies team have been brought in-house to be controlled by the club and the ladies I am sure now train at Barnfield. He made an objective of being at least in the Women's Championship within 5 years.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 7:13 amDo we pay the Women from our club or is it still seperate?
