Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
Lots of posts along the lines of "what football used to be"
Well, I for one have absolutely no wish to play Stockport County and their fanbase, just so we can all find out "what football used to be"
I understand Blackpool, Blackburn, PNE rivalry, but a one sided one with a commuter town of Manchester (and South Manchester at that) whose fans are absolute tools isn't something I miss

Stockport fans saw us as rivals in the late 80s/early 90s because we very much were!

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
1989/90 season we played them 5 times, twice in the league, twice in the FA Cup and once in the LDV. 1990/91 season we played them 6 times. Twice in the league, twice in the League Cup and twice in the LDV trophy. 11 times we met in 2 seasons, which is where the rivalry from their side stems from, with the flames fanned by the aforementioned Steve Bellend, one time fanzine editor and newspaper columnist and now Club President. Clearly they set the bar low at Edgeley Park...
And i am guessing the root of the hatred stems back to a 0-0 draw on a Friday evening in September 1988. There was a huge Clarets following that evening and the trouble inside the ground was as bad as anything i can remember, mainly with GM Police. It was front page on the national papers Saturday morning, with a significant number of arrests and several Police officers injured and requiring hospital treatment. It was one of the first times i can remember Police filming the disorder as it unfolded - one of my friend's brother in law did 4 months inside on the back of video evidence from that game.

In the same round, Exeter could be expelled for using six subs when normally only five are allowed:

Didn't he once write in a match report that he would rather eat cockroaches than be at Turf Moor? Think it was the game on the Turf when the had a player sent off for decking Chris Pearce (possibly had two sent off). We won the game, could have been a very late winner.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 10:34 pmVery strange but fuelled by their local journalist Steve Bellis and that nasty piece of work is now the club president.
No Nay Never copied the report in their next issue after the game. It was ridiculously biased, I think he even said Pearce should have been sent off for provocation.
I've probably still got the NNN somewhere. I might dig it out if I get bored with working.

I remember chortling at one of his post match interviews explaining Stockport's latest loss. He wasn't worried because the style of football was pleasing.Hipper wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 8:34 amJust resigned as manager of Grantham:

They were bad when he took over but they only got worse under his tenure.
They were weak as a kitten under him. It really imbedded the rot in the playing side for Stockport.

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
Think with Stockport it was the usual for a club that was a lot more successful than its size suggested they should be, and that they started to believe that they could compete with the much bigger clubs and budgeted accordingly, and when the wrong manager and players came in, the financial reality came crashing downRowls wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 9:34 amI remember chortling at one of his post match interviews explaining Stockport's latest loss. I never wanted them to go bust, and I am pleased they are on the way back, but thats it

Im in my 60`s and dont think Ive ever seen a game with so many, mainly fantastic, crosses going in the box. Wide, not so wide, get to the byline cutbacks, all sorts going on and good stuff especially from stockport.
After the 1st 5 mins that is!

One of the best FA Cup ties in ages.
I started off not giving a **** about who won, then I found myself going for Stockport when they went 2-0 down. I very nearly started watching something I had recorded from the other night. Glad I stuck with it. Now I'm back to not giving a toss about either of them.

No option really because it was 0-0 at the end of normal time and then Exeter introduced their 6th sub and scored three times. Strangely enough, Bradford were refused a5th sub during extra time.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 2:48 pmExeter v Bradford result scrapped, game ordered to be replayed
What were the officials doing in allowing this to happen, particularly the 4th official who should have realised straight away. Not good!

I felt obliged to respond to your initial lambasting as I recently met a Stockport fan, and I have to say he is a very nice person. This came to me as a surprise as I’d heard all sorts of nasty things about them, not least on this message board.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:47 amOh, we've got our fair share of idiots, it just seemed that every Stockport fan was one.

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
You're absolutely right about the match officials being at fault for not spotting it, but surely Exeter have been let off lightly? Were they not aware of the rules, or did they just forget they'd already made five subs?Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 3:09 pmNo option really because it was 0-0 at the end of normal time and then Exeter introduced their 6th sub and scored three times. Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
It appears that Exeter were told by the officials that they could make the 6th substitution, therefore, they had been wrongly advised by the officials. I think that, with this being the case, had the FA decided to throw them out of the competition, it would have led to an appeal because those in charge of the game (the match officials) had misinformed them. That would probably have dragged on and could have affected the 2nd Round which is due to be played on 4 December. I just feel sorry for Bradford who have to make another 600 mile round trip.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 4:36 pmYou're absolutely right about the match officials being at fault for not spotting it, but surely Exeter have been let off lightly? So, the match officials didn't know the rules about substitutions ? Or had they miscounted?Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:06 pmIt appears that Exeter were told by the officials that they could make the 6th substitution, therefore, they had been wrongly advised by the officials. Whatever the reason -----it should not have happened and the officials have to take the blame because they are in charge of the match.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:09 pmSo, the match officials didn't know the rules about substitutions ? Or had they miscounted?

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
Agreed. I think many of us anticipated something like this happening with so many substitutions nowadays. A maximum of three was quite enough for any level of football.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:21 pmWhatever the reason -----it should not have happened and the officials have to take the blame because they are in charge of the match.

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
Best one was Tranmere v Sunderland in the FA Cup in 2000. Tranmere made a late substitution just as they had a player sent off but the player who was being substituted didn't come off so they had a player too many on the pitch. The player who should have come off then cleared the ball off the line and they beat Sunderland 1-0.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 5:21 pmWhatever the reason -----it should not have happened and the officials have to take the blame because they are in charge of the match.
And that was with only three subs able to come on. The ref was Harris who was a Premier League ref. He didn't get another game for two months.

Probably the game every County fan would wantclaretbob wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 10:37 pmLike many of us older clarets really strange to find myself rooting for County. Brilliant game, passionate atmosphere, pitch invasion: that game had everything. However if County got past Rotherhan and drew us in the third round it would be tin hat time. Their hatred for us is off the scale and trouble would be inevitable.
But don't think you would need your tin hat ,the Rotherham game moved to Friday night ,down to the police who say they needed extra numbers for this game ,and they wouldn't be available on Saturday ,so probably more police than fans home or away for a Burnley v Stockport game

Re: Stockport-Bolton (BBC 2)
Our under-23s arranged a pre-season game against them five or six years ago. Despite our first team having a game on the same night (at Fleetwood I think), the police made the Stockport game top category which led to it being called off.

We’re hardly talking b@stares here or Millwall vs West Ham are we . For most County fans ,Burnley means pretty much nothing . A good few scuffles over the yrs and a crazy terrace night in the 80’s really means zilch to most fans . Sure we played em loads 25-30 ish yrs ago.wembley94 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 3:06 pmProbably the game every County fan would want
