I have mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand - very pleased that we won't have a long period without football.
On the other hand - if the Boxing Day fixture is called off with hours to spare (after planning the day around it) I'll be hugely p***ed off.
What is the chance that either us, or Everton will have an outbreak by then?

I have already wrote that game off, as you I had plans for full day with family and friends but I am not risking another late postponement.

I’m not wasting any more of my hard earned money on travelling expenses to watch football when it is going to be a lottery determining if the match is on or not whilst actually travelling to the match. It’s a shambles and no one appears to be accountable.

I'm beginning to despair at the EPL decision makers. they had a chance to take a lead but no. 4 matches went attend this week-end. Surprise (not) that 3 of them were being covered by Sky. For the first time I actually felt sorry for Leeds who could barely muster a team. Likewise with Liverpool. United click their fingers and get a match postponed, likewise with another so called big club who wanted and got the match called off 2 hours before kick off. It really is getting a joke and its been agreed to continue with the Christmas fixtures unless the government step in before than. I can only see further last minute cancellations and the fans miss out again.

Restrictions coming in at government level. Pubs back to outdoors only etc. Can't exactly allow thousands to gather at football grounds.

The whole game shifted from "for the Fans" to Money years ago, and its just getting greedier to the point the Fans are a none entity. you only have to look the way the influential people on this board seem to be no longer involved on what/how the fans are getting along and feel so no voice whatsoever, reason being they don't want to know as we are at the bottom of the list of priorities, especially if companies come calling for money back du to cancelled fixtures. The beautiful game is firmly on track of to hell in a hand cart for me, which is a shame for all the younger generations who wont witness what we have.

It's not that simple. We'll never know for sure, but if all players and staff had had 2 jabs and more recently the booster, then I suspect that none or at least fewer games would have been off up to now.

This just about sums it up for me.
There’s still a chance things could turn around but if they don’t then the bleak image painted by ClaretAL could become reality.

The league is still smarting for the 330million they're paying back to the broadcasters for last years postponements
We'll be giving just under 10% of last season's TV money back in a series of installments.

I'm sure the decision to muddle through even If it is an utter shambles was motivated by the desire not to pay a penny more than they have to.
For TV this is the biggest time of the year, it drives subscriber numbers and the advert slots will demand the highest fees too.

Common sense says press pause, prioritize the health of fans & players, avoid disruption and fans being out of pocket. But £££ trumps concern for fans and players.

The 3 Sky games went ahead at the weekend while all others were called off!
The broadcaster's will have dictated this decision Sky Boxing Day /Amazon Prime 28th.

Klippetty Klopp can whine all he wants, he feeds his family from TV money these days that's how it is.

I agree it's likely to get farcical with Covid postponements though.

Just read that the EPL have said matches should go ahead if 14 of the squad, inc. a keeper, are available. How did Villa get down to 14 so quickly. If they were down to 16 the previous evening the fans had a right to know.

The correct decision despite the difficulties. Surely it is best to get as many games played as we can to avoid the inevitable fixture pile up later. Postponing gameweeks just kicks the can down the road. Who is to say the situation will be any easier in 2 weeks time? We've been here before and past lessons are not being learnt by people calling for a halt. 3 sets of fixtures all cancelled when some could have gone ahead and we get to the new year and the situation is no different? What then?
What is needed is protocols in place and cut off points for fixtures to be called off, standby players/u23s tested and ready to go if needed.

At least we now appear to have a rule: game goes ahead if club has 13 players plus a goalkeeper, though I'm not sure if that is a firm and agreed Premier League rule, or just quoted by media because UEFA have used that rule to decide Spurs lost 0-3 to Rennes.

Also, be interesting to know what rule PL was using for all the games called off in the past week. Was it 13+gk for Watford? Ditto Villa?

Be good to get more details on 13+gk rule: is this just those in 1st team squad, or can it include u23s and other younger players?

Agree - this is a complete shambles, has added little clarity and is driven by money only

Are you suggesting that Sky knew a couple of months back (or whenever the tv fixtures were announced) that omicron was coming?

I'd be asking questions about the clubs' xmas parties and if that has got anything to do with the teams with multiple players with c-19.

Similarly, I'd be asking questions about how effective the PL c-19 protocols are - and whether all the clubs are still following them diligently.

I’ve had still both and still managed to catch it. Vaccinations have 0 effect on stopping you getting it, only the impact of it.

But without the fans in attendance under lockdown, the football played suffered. It was awful at times and the canned crowd was very 1970’s and crap. I stopped watching games.

I’ve had mine so I’m not anti vaxer, I just find it odd that everyone is turning on young lads that may have caught something through no fault of their own and could also be jabbed. I read today that over 80% of premier league players & staff have had at least one jab and 70%+ had both.

Noone is turning on the jabbed. The unjabbed unless for proper medical reasons (and I don't mean scared of needles) imo are another matter.

Not sure if that stat would be the same in terms of all UK adults.
But, in any case, it appears that 3 jabs are required,
I've had all 3 but still got C19

Vaccinated people are less likely to transmit to others, so vaccinations (collective, plural) do stop you getting it. Just not the one you had, other people's.

The message to unvaccinated people is if you get it you could become seriously ill or even die.
Telling them they could pass it on to others will not work and with 7O % of the public fully vaccinated yet transmission at record levels one hell of a lot of vaccinated people are spreading it
