The only chance is a very good window and not one that comes down to the last minute. It is still in our hands but we’ve got to be better than the current bottom four.

You don't think Cornet has made an instant impact seriously. I know he's had a few niggles, but when he plays he brings a different dimension to our attacking play, sadly his team mates aren't always on the same wavelength as him.

Collins and Roberts will be decent Championship players, cos make no bones about it that's where we're heading at a rate of knots.

I do agree on 1st XI signings, but who are we going to attract with the prospect of relegation looming large.
Of course Cornet has made an impact but we haven't seen enough of him. Collins and Roberts will be good signings but have had little influence on our season so far

I'd get Collins in for Tarks ASAP, he's impressed when called upon this season, and the more he plays alongside Mee the better for them to build an understanding, we all know JT won't be here next season, so time to look to the future.

The problem Roberts has is displacing Lowton, who's been one of the few to perform to their usual standards.

No, today was the dictionary definition of must win.

We might be only a couple points adrift, but we’re about to embark on a 4 game losing run because of our fixtures. We’ll be bottom by the end of January, I think.

Remember when Dyche dropped Hart because he'd tried everything else. I'm at the point now after watching another tepid performance that we plan for the future and drop Tarks for Collins, get Roberts in for Lowton (or JBG for that matter) and see if any of the U23's are better on the ball than Cork etc. Too many old and average players, I'd rather give the new lads a chance and finish bottom than finish second bottom watching the same old rubbish

Our games in hand that some people have been banging on about will most likely only serve against us in the goal difference department.
Having said that, a good old cup run might just boost mora........ oh, wait a minute - Cup. Dyche.

We’re 2 points behind 17th with a game in hand, so of course there’s a way we stay up.

That said, I’m fairly certain that persisting with the same line up and/or making little effort to strengthen the squad will likely see us relegated.

It’s very hard to see an improvement without changes being made.

NO WE WON'T STAY UP. We dont deserve to remain in the PL. A club of our size has to be smart in order to achieve results. We are not smart in our recruitment-we were arguably better under Stan or Cotterill. WE fail to exploit the loan market, or the free transfer market, again something we were good at around 8 years ago. Not smart in team selection with the same non productive players starting every week. Today we elected to not start Cornet when every other PL manager in our position would have started him. Did we really believe a team with the attack of Wood and Lennon were ever going to beat Leeds. We are not smart in tactics or changing them. We are not smart at reading the opposition in preparation of games, or reading a change in tactic during a game by the opposition. A lot of this comes down to our manager who has grown too big within our club, and never seems to have been accountable to anyone

Maybe but they've still won more games than we have managed this season.

Watford have lost 6 on the trot, yet are still above us.

And Newcastle can surely only improve over the 2nd part of the season.

And our chances of catching anyone else are slim to nil I'm afraid.

Man Utd win everything for years , then the inevitable decline , same for Liverpool , Arsenal . Same for all of us , that’s life , a flourishing of youth then a slowing down and inevitable end . We have had the great times and it cannot go on for ever . It’s no one’s fault , it’s life . So relegation is no biggie , we are not a moneyball team so cannot buy our way out of it. We may still scrape it but it’s time to rebuild . That may mean we drop a division and start again but what a journey that will be . We have done it all before and I am sure we will again . What a pleasure it has been to be a Burnley fan and see all the great games and players . Another chapter beginning maybe and if the last championship ride was anything to go by it will be great . Come on lads and lasses let’s cheer the lads on whatever the score. It’s a game .

Take Newcastle out of the equation & we are starting from Leeds & Everton & further up Southampton & then things start looking bleaker.

Oh I know and you want as many teams down there as possible. However, we only need to finish 17th, so it’s now pretty much now about whether we can finish top of the league of 4.

Hardly impossible, but as I say, unlikely without some significant changes.

I think it’s Watford us & Norwich I was hoping Brentford would start dropping but I think after today that cushion is now too much & they look an half decent side how we beat them is a head scratcher.

Agreed. I thought Brentford looked hopeless at Turf Moor and I believed their promotion bubble had burst.

2 games in hand & 12 points difference I don’t have the confidence we could close that gap to 6 & they won’t pick up more wins, we simply cannot win & help ourselves even when like last night we had a shot of luck with the late spurs winner.

If we do go down, I'm more worried that the top teams will come in for our star players like Lowton,Mee, Westy, Guddy,Corky, Brownhilly, Bardsley, Lennony, Pieters,Barnesy, Vydra etc. We will be fooked without them.

Simple answer is "yes" there are other likely contenders for the drop.

Your starter for ten, can you name them, and the reasons why?

Norwich-probably.
Watford-maybe.

After that I'm struggling to find another.

Newcastle will recruit heavily in the window though, now that doesn't guarantee survival, but it could definitely help their cause.

Everton are crap, but they are still 8 points ahead of us as it stands, and we've got a difficult run of upcoming fixtures, so there's every chance that gap will increase, plus if things get much worse they'll simply pot Benitez. I really can't see Everton being dragged into the relegation battle, before today I would have said Leeds were catchable, but the way they easily disposed of us with a makeshift squad doesn't exactly inspire much confidence that we've got much hope of pulling back that 8 points.

What would drastically change things is if we could somehow put back-to-back wins together, but there's little sign of that happening anytime soon.

Does anyone know if Tony Loughlan's departure has had a significant impact on us, or is it that him going has coincided with this wretched run of performances and results? Last season wasn't really much good and he was here then.

I am genuinely interested to know if anyone has any "inside" info that losing him has been so catastrophic for us.

I remember our Boxing Day drive back from the hull drubbing in 2015 or should I call it the sail back when me and my boy agreed that was it game over for that season. We all know what happened next and we ended up dancing on the pitch at charlton.
But it took Joey reading the riot act to the team in the dressing room at hull to put the fire in their bellies that sent them on their amazing unbeaten run thereafter , I look at the team today at Leeds and just can’t see who could do that now.We don’t have anyone who hates losing more than life itself and won’t accept anything less from his teammates

The Boxing Day drubbing by Everton is the one I remember, a turning point that season, we were superb in the New Year. That said, it just doesn't feel like that is coming this time. I hope he tries to change things up to freshen things up and to stop being so damned loyal to the players who just aren't performing.

Yes , if Dyche takes a long hard look at himself.

He needs to throw away the successful formula he has used in the past because it no longer works.

Replacing Hart with Heaton worked but this time replacing one player with another is not going to act as a catalyst like then.

His great strength of showing loyalty to players who have done it for him in the past is not going to keep us up this time.

I fear he no longer has the same bond with the squad and has to drop regular first choices for the 3 new signings in the summer and find something different within himself.

The days of fine margins are well and truly over

Dyche was one of the last to catch on that maybe starting Hart over one of our best keepers of recent times (and club captain) was an error. It was just a long overdue correction of a mistake. The changes you suggest are far more radical for him and just aren’t going to happen (though they arguably should).
