We need some of his competitveness in the rest of them now. I'd pick him and I'd pick Bardsley.

Whether you like him or not, you can’t question his commitment. Always gives 100%

I would argue that he was probably our best signing in recent times. Mr Burnley in the Dyche era.

Not pretty, not skillful not athletic, but a 100 percenter. Strong, brave and committed.
Wood is only a shadow of himself without Barnes.
Sadly injuries and age have caught up with him as it does everyone.
My favorite Premier league Burnley player.

Super Ash also scored some great goals vs Wigan and overhead kick vs WBA to name two

One of my favourites and hope he can recover his fitness and play a role this season

I was in the away end at West Ham when he gave us the lead, that is his best strike so far.

The entertainment got even better later when the Ray Winstones had a collective meltdown.

Eight years of sh1t housing. Now that takes some doing! He was effective in his day and could probably still do a job against teams that suit his style of play.

Can't argue with that, both were bargain signings, and we've had nearly 550 appearances combined from that duo to date.

Get back on the park soon Ash, as we need striking options now more than ever.

Was that the day he knocked the West Ham protester over with the minimum of effort?

Odd this thread. A sudden Barnes love in. Look, he has been great for us but the relevant term here is ‘has been’. He is over the hill as a PL player and at best might find a niche in the Championship. It would be a sad state of affairs if he were to make another first team appearance other than maybe an odd cameo as a sub if we needed to. I’m not criticising his service to the club but he is tired and just not good enough any more.

We could definitely do with the Barnes of 8 years age. The current one ???-not so sure

I don't think there's a love in as such going on. I think you'll see that most people tend to agree with you. Barnes absolutely epitomises what we've been about for the past 8 years, especially bearing in mind how much he cost and that the Brighton forum at the time was pretty scathing and most would have happily driven him to Burnley themselves (although they'd never actually get out of the car! 😉) These days he equally epitomises us because like a host of other players he's not able to offer what he once could and has rather past his sell on date and almost everyone seems to see that tbf.

Popular and immensely effective over the years. I’ll remember him fondly once he leaves.

If he starts any games this season or is still with us next season, something has gone seriously wrong. He’s looked way off the standard for a good 12 months or more.

You’re probably right. Too many of our players seem to have lost the hunger that was our trademark. And maybe it is age. Even Tarks seems to be off the pace. I don’t know the answer that doesn’t involve spending stupid money.
