Lets call him 'The BFD'

The Big Friendly (or alternative) Dutchman
I think Holy Custard christened him the Big Dutch Sausage,

So a song could be:

He's big in your box
He's big in your box
The big Dutch Sausage
He's big in your box

You’d like to think Erik Pieters will help him to settle in.

Clearly a significant upgrade on Chris Wood (2022).

Better touch, quicker over the ground and actually knows what to do when clean through.

Good feeling about this.

Happy with this transfer. A solid player who has enjoyed success in a competitive league, who fits the way we play and offers us more than Wood in terms of his mobility and all round game. £12m gives us a lot of change from the sale of Wood to improve other areas.

We can't deny the impressive scoring record that Wood built while he was with us. However, he was very reliant on central corridor opportunities and he was constantly offside. I think part of that problem was his need to set off early to get where he needed to be.

A striker with better mobility, like Wout, could score from opportunities throughout the box and will probably see a lot less of the offside flag. Imagine how many goals Wood could have got without all of those offside decisions.

Now we just need to go back to our previous tactics to ensure that Wout gets the chances that we used to serve up to Wood. So no more Dwight on the right, no more Dwight drifting into the middle at every opportunity when he plays on the left and no more pushing forward in an attempt to play expansive football that leaves our slow payers dangerously exposed to quick counters.

The combination of all these small changes robbed Wood of his usual chances and made the whole team less effective. They didn't generate any more total chances for us, the goals from our midfield didn't increase, the type of chances we created had a lower scoring probability and our defensive game suffered.

First job for Wout, pick up the fecking cones :)

When you fail to rise above unsettling circumstances and do what your team mates are doing you don't just let them down you let yourself down as well.

Fabulous. His goal stats are actually stunning. All through the years both in top flight in Holland and Germany he has pretty much averaged a goal every two games. Anyone scoring 20 goals in a season in the Bundesliga will do for me. The only thing bewildering me is how we got him for only 12m or so when we had Newcastle’s pants down for Wood at double that. Yeah, he has to prove himself yet but his record in the Bundesliga, a league I believe to be every bit as good as the PL, suggests he will be fine.

Now, when will Sean decide he is ready to play? I reckon sometime mid April. 😉 Only kidding...he should play against Watford.

The haters will be absolutely seething when Roberts is hurling 30 yards throw-ins into the mixer on to Wout's head.
Exactly what I've been thinking . We haven't had the opportunity to see Roberts in a real attacking situation. He couod easily become one of our best signings in recent times.

From the goals reel he looks very confident in one on one situations which is a real positive, some very classy finishes in Germany that’s for sure. Some of the defending looks a class below the prem but there is a big positive in his knack of being in the right place and the ease in which he can beat the keeper (including Neuer)

I'm sure the Helmond lads will be delighted with this, they must be due over for their annual visit in the next couple of months.

Let's hope he notches early and gets us moving up the table.

Cornet and Weghorst up front will be a big threat.

Just read that Wolfsburg wanted rid, as the German vaccination need is essential, otherwise a player cannot be with the rest of the team! Burnley didn't care, so got him!

Hope he doesn't catch it badly!

I welcome any new Burnley player, but it reminds me of all those years ago when we used to play Stockport.
We had David Eyers & Ted Mcminn supplying Adrian Heath & Johnny Francis.
Stockport had big John Francis.
I thought then and still think now that skill and speed is better than height.

That's how we got out of the fourth division with the pace of Francis, Harper and Eli.

But we've signed pace in recent years with Dane Richards, George Porter, Zavon Hines. You need far more than pace at this level.

Veel geluk Wout! (Good luck in Dutch). Embarrassing that I had to look this phrase up on t'internet given that I spent a year in the Netherlands in the mid 90s as a foreign exchange student ;-). Back to the thread, I think he will do well for us. Let's hope our midfield can supply him with the service he needs.
