Re: Russia Invades
The total destruction and pointlessness of this conflict for both sides encapsulated in this clip.
https://mobile.twitter.com/olex_scherb ... w0boymf0
The more of these are fed into Russian media channels, the sooner a popular uprising will begin to get rid of Putin, it's the only way out for him now.
I can't see the Ukrainians wanting anything less than total removal of Russian forces from their soil as they would rather die than be ruled by Russians and now we can all see why.
Putin has almost totally destroyed their country's infrastructure and economy, this war has probably set the Ukraine back 50 years.

Re: Russia Invades
I wonder if this might eventually become the Ceausescu moment for Putin. He too thought he was untouchable, I remember the look of bewilderment on his face as he looked out at the demonstrating crowds in 1989. Led away, summary trial and shot like a dog. I pray the same fate awaits Putin, he is upsetting a lot of Russians at the moment.

Re: Russia Invades
The Russian people need to paralyse Moscow with ongoing, incessant, mass demonstrations. Bring the whole country to a grinding halt until Putin is removed from power. Have they the guts to do it? I hope so and I think they will.

The last bit of the quote from the Russian Spokesman
“ "There had been statements by various representatives at various levels about possible conflict situations and even collisions and clashes between Nato and the Russian Federation," said Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Vladimir Putin.
"We consider such statements absolutely unacceptable. I will not name the authors of these statements, although it was the British foreign secretary."

There are serious doubts about what actually happened in Romania with Ceaușescu as in foreign involvement.
Whilst I would love to see Putin overthrown I really can't see it happening. But then anything can happen in life.

Its disrespectful to allude to Russian people being gutless if they are not prepared to go to the streets and put themselves in grave danger. Please try and have some respect for the situation which a lot of the ordinary Russian folk find themselves in trying to live under a despot dictator like Putin.

Re: Russia Invades
Some impressive work from Czech Scouts

Well, the last 48 hours have been quite a ride. First on Friday, we three people sat with coffee and thought together where we could help as scouts. Then we got up, according to the smartwatch I walked over 40km, and in the end we were all together, there were already over 250 of us in the team, they sent 55 vans, 2 trucks and 2 buses to the Ukrainian-Polish border. Everything down to the last brim loaded with sorted and packed medicines, sleeping bags, mat mats and powerbanks.
And suddenly it was Sunday afternoon.
In retrospect, the funniest moment seems to me, when our communication magician Mravenec was leaving the Friday coffee saying that stamping sucks, that he would just set up a website and let it out. Why did we start looking for a paper box for a cafe where the sleeping bags could be put and that bartenders would pick them up... Well, in short, in the end, about 5000 sleeping bags gathered and the Scout Institute itself became the box.
Thousands of donors arrived, many of them appreciated the way to Prague from many places of the Czech Republic. Basically, we built a logistics company of 250 employees in 5 hours. But everyone was doing it for free and voluntarily. There were lots of Scouts and Non-Scouts helping out, awesome energy from a community of goodwill folks. I quite think many unexpected encounters and friendships were created there. One senior manager, who spent most of his time tossing things in the human chain, told me that he perhaps didn't experience that everyone would put their ego behind so much in favor of the whole. That's exactly the impression I have now, of a lifetime experience, that I could have been in that group.
And I also cried like a turtle several times in that performance.
When a married couple arrived from Ukraine that their son was leaving for the front. We just hugged and cried together..
When the police patrol came and I thought he wanted to blow up our makeshift parking lot at Little Square in the memorial zone. The guys stepped up and without saying a word began to help us unload...
When our friends from the SI team, who are now coordinating it on site, and they are great, I was just worried for them...
When they wrote to me this morning that everything is fine at the border, it works, things are loading straight into trucks towards Lvov ...
When a pile of things heard: "Verko...! "And there was a familiar voice in response. So some girl scout called for my mom and I never knew was here and was on the team sorting books..
Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is evil and is the expression of a strangely sick mind. The Ukrainian people deserve our maximum support, they shed their blood even for our freedom and values.
They say one ought to fight against evil which is just enough, so that was our weekend fight. Thank you so much to everyone involved in any way. To the donors, volunteers, drivers and the whole SI team! We will keep an eye on it and maybe find other ways to help. As the Boy Scouts say:
"Be prepared! "

Abandoned equipment from the Russian 4th Tank Division
Now its not clear here, but if these have been abandoned without being first made inoperable by their crews, then that is a very clear sign that all is not well with the Russian army
Because if they have not been made inoperable, then they can by used by the Ukrainians

Been thinking of a possible way out for Putin
He might be able to pull off a "we agree to stop fighting to save civilian lives"
Would be total bulls**t of course, but because he controls the narrative in Russia, it could work

Just listening to the Russian minister at the United Nations. They really think the rest of the world came down in the last shower and have no idea of what is going on.
It shows how repressed their own people are that there are yet to emerge any direct action resistance to Putin dragging Russia into the dark ages.

Yep, not a great deal of news today regarding Russian advances. Even suggestion they have been pushed back in Kherson.
It would appear the only thing Russia is able to do at the moment is indiscriminately shell residential areas out of desperation.

Re: Russia Invades
Most recent tactical map does suggest that the Ukrainians might have to abandon Mariupol, or at the very least put up with being encircled there
But it all depends on how quickly the extra munitions and weapons are getting forward
And if there are loads of Ukrainian civilians (or troops) behind the lines with RPGs or better, than how on earth are Russia going to maintain their supply lines?

Re: Russia Invades
I think it's a pretty lazy article if I'm being honest. As an example the only image I've seen of Ukrainian fighters destroyed was on the ground at a particular airfield (forget the name) and it was clear from photos that those destroyed had been sitting in the same place for at least four years in a non flying un-operational state. I've heard/seen/spoken with others and there is a very strong indication that the bulk of the AF isn't even operating from within Ukraine. The fact there is a willingness to provide them with F16's is good, pretty much an endless supply of those things if requiredLancasterclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 4:10 pmJanes analysis of the EU countries giving aircraft to the Ukrainians

The EU countries give up their operational SU-25s and MIG-29s, and they then replace them with surplus USAF F-16
The Ukrainian pilots wouldn't be able to fly an F-16
