How do we think Michael Keane has progressed since he left us? Kicked on, stood still or gone backwards?

Got to say, with the all the promise he had at the time of leaving, he seems to fallen a long way short of what was predicted of him.

It will always be said that out system made him look a better than he was.

Playing for a club that has been so unstable can't help.

He was never as good for us in the LCB role he’s had to play at Everton.

Regular starter for Everton for the 5th successive season and has been in and around the England squad for for decent periods. I'd say he's done as good as Id have expected and if Tarks can match Keane's post Burnley success he'll have done very well.

If you expected a lot more of Keane then you probably aren't recognising just how well Dyche sets up his teams defensively and how much protection his centre halfs are given

Has played a minimum of 30 games a season in the PL since he was with us.
Averages about a 6.95 match ratings across those seasons, which isn't bad and not that much different to Mee's time in the PL.
(Tarks rates just over 7 across the same period for balance)

He's fairly solid, has had to go through a lot of upheaval at Everton, I think he's on his 8th manager during his time there including caretakers.
That's a lot of chopping and changing of tactics/styles of play etc and he's just been dependable throughout.
Several of those managers failed to ensure the midfield did their job of protecting the defence, so the whole defence has had a rough ride in all fairness.
I don't think he's regressed as a result, he's just been Michael Keane, the quality defender we knew him as when he was here.

He's contracted until 2025, when he will be 32 ish I think and,.unless he's sold, he will probably hold his place in the starting 11.

He's had worse defenders ahead of him for England that's for sure, but we have the same complaint about Tarks lack of England caps.

We got a very good price for him and Everton got a very good, solid player in return.

Keane's done ok at Everton, and he hasn't been helped by injuries, and the constant change in managers.

His England days might be behind him now though, as Gareth seems to prefer younger players.

And memories of 2017 and the Lincoln game may just be creeping in tonight.

He's not gone on to have the career I thought he was destined to have.
It's been a bit chaotic at Everton though. How many managers has he played under there?

Still rate him though.

1-0 Everton eventually, but they've made heavy weather of this tie, and I wouldn't rule Boreham Wood out yet if they keep it to 1 until the last 10.

good but like many I thought Ben was better, personally I would not be at all surprised to see Tark's go the same way and will be reading similar threads about him for the next few seasons. Have always thought the way we play this is the most important pairing there is. Same for other teams in this area but I would be happy to see Keane back if available but I doubt very much he will be at a price we would be willing to pay and I like what I've seen so far of Collins.

A colossus for us, he showed poise and skill. I personally think he has gone backwards at Everton.
As a previous poster has said I would take him back tomorrow.
Play him alongside Mee or Collins and move JT into Midfield - assuming we keep our Prem status.

He's a good, solid defender whose at a club with an identity crisis and ideas above its station. Multiple managers, multiple CB partners, multiple tactical instructions. Compare this with the structure and continuity at Burnley and it's little wonder he's sometimes been looking a little lost. Anybody who wouldn't take him back in a breath is kidding themselves.

He has pace, with him in the team you can press further forward. It gets him out of trouble a lot. He also can score from set pieces. Big loss for us, Tarkowski is a great player but very very slow with worse distribution than Keane. However Tarkowski is probably stronger defensively when it comes to getting blocks and tackles in.

What we needed really was a Keane/Tarkowski partnership rather than Mee/Tarkowski to help us play better football.

Had a decent season when partnered with Zouma. Being a regular in a defence with players like Holgate, Mina, Godfrey & Williams is never going to be an easy job along with some strange manager appointments.

He never kicked on at Everton but you could say that about quite a few of their players. Too much of a car crash club with illusions of granduer.

He would be great in a Burnley shirt.

Great for us, a car crash at Everton. That goal they conceded against City was comical from Keane, you can't blame managers/CB partners/midfield protection for that absolute comedy show. Everton fans will tell you how bad Keane's been for them....

All in all he’s not done too bad there & probably on par with the rest of his team mates, he’s blended in well there but not really stood out as anything special.

Some players just fit some teams, Keane really fit in here, the system suited him down to the ground and didn't expose his biggest flaw, pace. At Everton he's been bad, like really bad for them.

He’s not been brilliant no, I think some people are unfairly comparing his time here with now & judging so forth, Keane was a good fit here.

No, I think he needs to be playing in a heavily defence focused system to do well otherwise he's left exposed, not the type of football Everton are expected to play by their fanbase.
I mean blaming 8 managers for his personal failure is strange, there's one common denominator in all of this, when do you just admit the player isn't good enough? manager number 15? mistake number 40?
