Suspected heart attack, only 52, at his villa in Thailand.

Shocking news at that age.

I was at The MCG the day he took his 700th test wicket.

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was a poor attempt at humour following the passing of Rod Marsh.

Hard to put into words but one of the finest cricketers I've ever seen and it goes without saying, the finest spin bowler I've ever seen. Devastating news for cricket, it really is.

Warne's last tweet, posted earlier today, read: "Sad to hear the news that Rod Marsh has passed. He was a legend of our great game & an inspiration to so many young boys & girls. Rod cared deeply about cricket & gave so much-especially to Australia & England players. Sending lots & lots of love to Ros & the family. RIP mate"

RIP Warney, farewell to one of the greats of the game far too early.

Terrible news. I remember that first ball to Mike Gatting at Old Trafford (I think) that launched his career.

Wow, utterly shocked. Always wound me up watching him because of his arrogance, but it was well placed, undoubtedly one of the best cricketers I’ve ever seen play.

Totally shocked and saddened by this.

Always struck me as a great bloke and great character...oh, and not too shabby at cricket. I was there in 2005 at Trent Bridge with England needing about 120 to win and every ball Warne bowled was the proverbial event in itself. From memory he almost won that test for the Aussies when he (and the Aussies) had no right to...

RIP Warney

It's more often the batsmen people flock to see but Shane Warne was an enigma who thrilled crowds all over the world with his array of spinning, fizzing deliveries. Did any batsman master him? RIP Shane Warne, a truly great cricketer and entertainer.

Absolutely stunned to read this. One of the all time greats of World Cricket and anyone who has a passing interest in cricket will remember his first delivery in his first Ashes test that dismissed Mike Gatting. You have to be a good 'un to turn a ball the width of Gatt and he went on to be a bit more than a good 'un. A very sad day for Australian and World Cricket with the passing of 2 greats of the game in Rod Marsh and now Shane Warne. RIP

Awful news, made spin bowling cool. A brilliant bowler, came across as a great thinker of the game when speaking.

Always had time for any young leg spinner coming through the ranks anywhere he happened to be.

A huge loss to the game.

RIP Shane

Thinking about it you're right 1882 . Young lads always wanted to be pace bowlers until Warney came along and made spin "cool" .

To make the headlines like he has when there's so much going on In the world shows just how highly Shane Warne was thought of. Always hated the arrogance that came when he played but in time Iearnt to respect and admire the God given skill he had. Gutted to hear the news, we've lost a true legend R.I.P. Shane Warne and thanks for the memories
