Such a young age in years.

A genuine legend of the game and proper Aussie character who I always enjoyed watching and listening to on TV.

Completely shocked by this news. Loved him as a player and more latterly as a pundit.
I saw him play for Hampshire at Glamorgan. All the way through the game, kids were asking for his autograph. He kept saying that he couldn’t during the game but would do after the match.
At the end of the game he came out to about 100 kids waiting for his autograph. He said ‘jeez’ and the. Spent about 1 hour signing every single one and posing for photos.
I still have the photo of him with my two boys.
True legend. RIP.

In my book a sportsman as supremely talented as Warnie can be as arrogant as he likes.
Who will ever forget his first bowl in test cricket in England - the Gatting bowl. I saw it live and my jaw dropped. What a cricketer. One of the very few sportsmen to whom the epithet legend can be accurately applied. This is so,so sad.

One former Lancashire League cricketer will remember him more than most, Duncan Spencer the Burnley batsman.

21st April 1991
Spencer st Rawstron b Warne 26

1st September 1991
Spencer c Holmes v Warne 57

Duncan provided him with his first and last wickets in the league. Warne had figures of 2 for 34 and 1 for 72 in those games.

I don't think anyone there could have ever believed just how good this young Aussie spinner would become.

Yes, very sad news, RIP Shane. Fabulous cricketer and quite "a lad".
I had to go to this song tribute made about 10 years ago by Australian singer/songwriter Paul Kelly. Light-hearted and warts-and-all but very much in admiration of the man

When seeing this earlier I was genuinely stopped in my tracks.
The man who put spin bowling on a pedestal.
The Sporting World really is a bit dimmer with his passing.
No age.

R.I.P Shane.

Unbelievable news. There aren’t many true superstars in sport in my opinion, especially in cricket, but he certainly was one of them. To leave us at only 52 however is so sad. Thoughts to his family, the world has lost a great guy. RIP Shane Keith Warne.

I don't usually do these death threads but this has come as quite the shock.

I too saw him in the Lancs League, when by his own admission I'm sure, he'd say that he didn't take cricket seriously and was young and daft. But he turned into an absolute epic cricketer.

He played the game so hard, had a brilliant cricketing brain and should have been captain of Australia for a long while, although they did alright anyway.

Loved listening to him commentate and talk about the game.

In the style of Adam Gilchrist........ bowled Warney!

Mot much to add, I sae this on the headlines earlier well checking about events in the Ukraine, and it really stunned me.

Some people transcend their sports, and Warne definitely fell into that category.

RIP Shane and thoughts with his young family.

Terrible news. Absolute legend and way too young. Always remember as a 14/15 year old going to an ashes test at Old Trafford with a mate and his dad. Warne got dogs abuse all day long and took it all in his stride, playing along and giving some back. One of the all time greats and a personality to match.

It has taken me until now, for it to sink in.

I loved listening to and watching Shane Warne.

A very nice chap indeed. You can just tell.

I am very sad and like everyone, shocked at the sudden news.

Thank you Shane, for your contribution to life.

Sometimes a person in the public eye passing away really hits you hard. It’s a strange sensation, but says everything you need to know about how truly special these ‘once in a lifetime’ characters really are. Although that description wouldn’t even come close to doing him justice.

Haven’t been able to get my head around this one at all today. Taken far too soon.

Mr Australia for me and a genuine superstar and personality of world sport. Rest In Peace Warney. You will be sorely missed.

cant add much more than what has been said. however, what i admired about SW was that if a batsman ever did get on top of him (which was rare) he was always the first to congratulate that batter. a true gentlemen and genius who will be missed massively.

Such sad news that one of the greatest bowlers in history should die so young,
Great news that the Australian government have honoured him with a state funeral
Rest in Peace Shane and thanks for some great memories.
Just a footnote... I watched him get his best figures in the Lancs League(I think) on Bacup Rd Rawtenstall...a six for....Roscoe outdid him him though with his own six for.

Naming a stand in his honour at Melbourne, fitting tribute as that's where he claimed his 700th test scalp.https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/60630111

I don't know what the rules are in Australia for state funerals but they did offer one to Richie Benaud but the family turned it down. It shows though how well thought of Warne was to be granted this.
