Positives & Negatives

Post by Rowls » Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:33 pm

Instead of fighting out between the 'happy clappers' and the 'doom-mongers' let's try an experiment in posting equal numbers of each

Postives

* There was fight in the team today. There won't be any downing of tools and sulking we saw when Coyle jumped ship
* We really should have won. The penalty miss and, to a lesser extent, Jay's miss have cost us.
* Pope was world class today

Negatives

* Westwood's horrific injury is dreadful news and we'll have to rely on our stalwart Cork
* We've let 3 points slip from a winning position - again
* We looked tired at the end and our defensive frailties are still evident

Plus Brownhill avoided a yellow card-we can ill afford a suspension. Think he needs to survive another game then is safe

We played good football. Pope was outstanding. McNeil played with freedom. We didn’t constantly go back to Pope every time we were on the halfway line. Another point gained on Everton with a horrendous 3 games ahead for them.

Wout scored. He will get more. Doesn't matter how he scored, he scored. Strikers who go a long time without scoring lose confidence. This will fire him up.

Without being "fantastic", Jay has become more and more involved in recent months. He hits the bar which enables Wout to score.

We're not gone yet.

Pope is worth his weight in gold to us in the run in,the only negative I see is that we will undoubtedly lose him at the end of the season...the one positive we can get from that is that he must be worth about 35 million going of what Chelsea have paid for the keepers they have....he was absolutely magnificent today.

Nice try, Rowls.

But, haven't you sneaked a negative in amongst your "2 positives?" I've underlined, to identify which of your three bullet points.
Along the same lines, your second "negative" is a repeat of your "we really should have won."

I was listening on YouTube, so not seen the game.

Big question for those who have seen the game, how was the style? Is the team passing a lot more? Have we cut out the "hoofball into the box. chase that Wout/Jay" style of play?

A point today is great. We were playing a top ten team, that's in the semi-final of the Europa League and is just falling short of top 4 and had scored in 17 of their last home games this season. Today makes it 18.

I think it's a lot more positive than you submit plus I don't think it's about negatives today.

Simply put , we've had too many of those arguments put forward this season .

I don't like your divisive slant that it's should continue to be happy clappers v doom mongers.

We all pull together now !

Positive is the attitude of the whole team considering the last few days and the injury during the game. We passed the ball better than usual also.

Negative is dropping points from a winning position again but could have been worse.

I wouldn't call Leicester "horrendous", they are very inconsistent. Thought the same about United when everyone thought it was almost a guaranteed defeat.

Positive: Cornet is much more effective on the wing. I actually think if a new manager comes in we can look to play him slightly wide in an advanced forward position. His movement in the channels from wide is excellent.

Negative: has to score the pen

+ Still look up for the fight
+ Refreshing to see changes and tweaks made when needed not just when the game is starting to die out
+ Wout, Jay and Cornet looked back to their best
+ Sir Nicholas Pope

- Westwood’s horrific looking injury
- Shots on target
- Cornet’s last two misses
- Position in table

Got to say, it’s a lot harder to think of negatives than positives to today. Here’s to that continuing!

Positives- same fighting spirit as at Everton, same flashes of brilliance from a few players, Cork returning brought us closer to the team that saw an upswing in results and in Weghorst's form (and Weghorst picked up correspondingly today too), he lets us play through the middle much better. Same consistent quality from Pope.

Negatives- same tendency to lose results, same inability to muster on-target efforts, same infuriating shortcomings at simple moments from Cornet, back to the same Brownhill being overrun in midfield rather than the one who the ran show for a short run of games last time he was alongside Cork, same struggles to make McNeil effective. We got caught on the break a few times particularly left because Cornet pushing up more coupled with Taylor's natural playstyle left us exposed. On another day or with better finishing/worse keeping, West Ham would have punished us for that.

I accept that this is just your negative paragraph but on the last point, you could also say if we were able to score the penalty and Jay Rod hit the back of the net with his wayward shot, we could have quite easily have walked away with a 3-1 steal. Definitely had our backs to the wall though so can’t disagree that on another day it could have looked a lot worse, result wise.

Lol!

A fair point and maybe I'm giving myself away as a glass half full kind of person because from my perspective it was a positive in the sense of we created enough chances to win the game. We've gone through games where we don't create anything this season. Today we had the chances so I view that positively.

The negative would be we still didn't put them away.

Positives

Good football
Created chances against a good team
Team fighting spirit showed through
Dyche gone

Negatives

Westwoods injury
Penalty miss
Still in trouble

That game has made me positive again.

Positives- plenty of spirit in the camp, good goal for WW, Cornet & Jay were lively.
Decent point away to a good side, who might yet lift the EL.
Pope back to his best, and he alone ensured we held out for a point.

Negatives-Westwood's injury, whatever people might think about him this can't aid us in our survival battle, just hope it's not as severe as feared.
Cornet's terrible penalty, in our position we can ill afford to squander chances like that.
And yet again we let a lead slip in the last 20 minutes, I make it 16 points lost from winning positions this season, many of those in the latter stages of matches.

And tellingly we can't kill games off when well on top.

Normally I'd consider a point at West Ham a decent return, but given our urgent need for wins, and the fact we could have finished them off 1st half it's disappointing to only come away with a point.

Loved the way we came back at them after the equaliser.
West Ham aren't sitting up at the top end of the league for nothing.

Aye, I remember when you called JDRobbo a prick just because he posted something you disagreed with.

I'm absolutely amazed you're still allowed to post on this board with your attempts to ruin every thread you post on, but there we go.

Best to ignore the obvious trolls ksr. And I do find it ironic this poster is resorting to name calling, that speaks volumes for their own mentality.
