Fine with the stoppage in context of nourishing players who adhere to that faith, but for an opposing team to use the break to effectively hold a team talk in such a key game for us seemed wrong.
The players that required sustenance should have been the only ones to exit the playing area, not the entire squad.
It is not a thing football fans have become accustomed to in the first place, but to witness their manager trying to redress the balance before the half time break looked inappropriate.

It isn't hard to understand and it certainly isn't the reason that "creates trouble in football" I tried to tell you on Thursday night why it happens but you were not interested. Maybe just read up on it a little

Football fans haven't become accustomed to it?
They were holding team talks at the world cup in USA 94 during water breaks due to the heat if I remember rightly.

What bit is he struggling with? He hasn't said he disagrees with the break (or the reason behind it) and neither has he said Soton tried to take advantage from it to have a team talk. What’s your angle here???

When I used to play football we had a little pocket in our shorts for our fags & matches could they not sew a pocket in their shorts for their Mars bars or what ever they eat on one of these silly breaks..instead of stopping the game discreetly reach into your shorts and have a quick bite

No different to teams using other stoppages in play, such as injuries, to have a team talk.

Let's be honest, footballers using every opportunity to gain some sort of advantage is hardly news is it?

When I played, a lad turned up without shin pads, so rolled a couple of magazines up and put them down his socks. Can’t believe “modern players” waste money on shin pads, when there’s perfectly acceptable magazines available free in the hair dresses they go to for their ridiculous haircuts. Short back and sides, that’s all they need…… eeeee modern football.

You're complaining about the opposition using it for a team talk when we did the exact same thing.... If you're against the stoppage in general well that's an entirely different thing, if you're gonna complain about BOTH sides having team talks then fair enough.

Teams are always getting instructions from the sidelines, at throw ins, injuries, even shouted instructions when
the play comes close to the touchline, as pointed out further up the thread.

Muslims break fast at a specific time each day in relation to when the sun sets. Sure, this was close to half time. But what is the cut off point? 10 minutes, 20 minutes? It’s clearly agreed that teams can stop for a very short break regardless of when this occurs in relation to kick off time.

I’m guessing the stoppage was 60 seconds during which both teams took on water/energy supplements and had a quick team talk.

The point was that it took place at sundown, which is when Muslims have Iftar. Finding it pretty hard to believe that anyone actually gives a **** that forty minutes into the game we had a one minute stoppage in play in which Muslim players had their first drink of water of the day, both teams had a quick breather and assessed the state of play (like during every other stoppage in a football match ever) and 5,000 Burnley fans snuck an early pie.

The bloke I sit next to, who appears convinced that the opposition consistently waste time, pinch yards on throwings and generally get every decision in their favour yelled “what the f*** is going on now” as they headed to the bench, just as he did against Everton.

That said, after each and very goal scored he shouts “are they going to check it” and seems certain that all our goals get checked but none of the oppositions. I’ve told him each time “every goal gets checked pal” but he will no doubt be shouting the same come Sunday.

Yeah, was an article in the Atheltic about it I think. I think it had them bang to rights and its noticeable they don't appear to be doing it anymore

Have some empathy with the OP. During the Everton game it was just the Everton player that went to the touchline for sustenance. Two weeks later everyone trooped over. As stated, probably just another example of the game 'moving on'.

I do despair at times. As has been pointed out, both teams will have agreed to this break in play prior to KO and both teams took the opportunity to use the break to their advantage. It’s a nothing point. Not only that, the OP appears to have sat stewing over this for over 24 hours.

The dates of Ramadan are based on the lunar calendar so it moves around. For most of the last decade it's basically completely avoided the domestic football season. For the last few years it's been beginning in May and now April so that's why Iftar is falling during games. I'm sure I remember the same thing happening last year as well but with no spectators present it was more of a non-event.
