Harry Styles
Harry Styles
I seem to have fallen in to the stereotype family. I take our son to football, my partner takes our daughter to netball and shopping. However, this Wednesday I’m taking our daughter to see Harry Styles at Old Trafford . I’ve invested in a Burnley pack away coat in case the weather turns! Daughter very excited. Anyone else going?

Not going, but his music is pretty good for polished modern pop.

Mmmmm…. Don’t think so pal. 50,000+ screaming female teenagers doesn’t really do it for me.
Stiff little fingers next I think. 1,500 fat old punks pretending to be 20 again is right up my street.

Re: Harry Styles
No, but I did go and see 1d, with my wife and daughters. Very different to what we would normally go and see, but I’ve got to admit they were entertaining and I’m glad I went. The only disappointment was the crowd. We are normally near the front at a gig, so we got standing tickets thinking it would be more lively, but the crowd around us never got going.
There was a distinct lack of men though, I only saw 3 or 4, to the extent that we ended up on the paper a couple of times as rare dad with daughter(a) photos.

Re: Harry Styles
I am not, but he makes good music and I’ve heard he puts on a good live show. Not a 1D fan by any stretch but his solo stuff is decent. Not too much of a fan of his recent album but his second, Fine Line, is excellent.

I saw PiL last week. 2 hours of my life I won't get back again. Lydon was what he is though, so my fault for going

Re: Harry Styles
Lydon used to be an angry young man…. Now he’s just an angry old man. He’s been angry that long, he’s probably forgotten why he was angry in the first place.

Re: Harry Styles
Who would have thought in the 1970s that Jonny Rotten would turn out to be the good guy and Jimmy Savile the bad guy......
Re: Harry Styles
When we saw PiL I though musically, they were excellent. What let it down was Lydon trying too hard to be Lydon.Alanstevensonsgloves wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:08 amI saw PiL last week. 2 hours of my life I won't get back again. Lydon was what he is though, so my fault for going

I have never listed to HS, well not that I know of, but I did listen to a couple of DJ's talking about him a while back and they mentioned his tone range and how good he is, the comparison from them was Roy Orbison as the only one that had the same range/depth in "pop music". I really like RO, so he might be worth a listen to actually, be good to hear your feedback on the show, not so much the crowd, as I can only imagine what that'll be like.

Just got back from Old Trafford. For a 55 year old man, that was quite an experience! In fairness, it was a good show and the atmosphere incredible. I would recommend seeing him, he can sing and gets the crowd going. They absolutely love him. I didn’t know any of his songs but my daughter sang along to them all and that was good enough for me. Counting Crows next for me, daughter said she might come with me.KateR wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 10:32 pmI have never listed to HS, well not that I know of, but I did listen to a couple of DJ's talking about him a while back and they mentioned his tone range and how good he is, the comparison from them was Roy Orbison as the only one that had the same range/depth in "pop music". Re: Harry Styles
Can he play at centre mid?
Re: Harry Styles
He's a very talented bloke and is unfairly judged by some because he was in One Direction. But Justin Timberlake and Robbie WIlliams have shown it's possible to break away from that 'boy band' image.
Re: Harry Styles
Super, I do love a good show and live music is my favorite although I get to very few big names I've been to a few places with live music and always enjoy, I understand fully about the enjoyment of our children, no matter what age being a joy to watch.Cabbage wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 12:33 amJust got back from Old Trafford. Funnily enough I was listening to Counting Crows this morning in the car and I think they are so good, have a few of their albums on my IPod in the car. Plus it was our eldest son who bought me the first CD of them a long time ago for my birthday, saying he thought I'd really enjoy. He's introduced me to quite a lot of my music, I'm sure you'll really enjoy that show and you can do a role reversal, sing along to all the songs and your daughter can see your enjoyment!
Re: Harry Styles
good god, I merely quoted what the early morning Radio 1 DJ's were saying about his tone/range, not that his music was same/similar

Re: Harry Styles
Cabbage, I'm dropping off my wife and daughter later for this concert. I've heard from sources that the warm up didn't start till 7.30 and then Harry came on at 8.30. Gates open at 4, but that seems to be a long time waiting around. What was the pre event experience, were people getting restless? Is it worth waiting and going in around 6 maybe?
Re: Harry Styles
I dropped my daughter and her friend off yesterday at 2pm they queued to get in when the Doors opened at 4, the reason was because they had pitch ticket's unreserved standing and they wanted to be close to the stage, there was 74 thousand inside the cricket ground, Harry Styles started around 8:40 and went on until just after 10:15, I visited family in Oldham and went back later around 9 to pick them up but it was a nightmare getting anywhere near most roads closed until midnight, I arranged to pick them up after the event from the white city retail park 12 minutes walk from the venue but be warned it took almost an hour to get off the carpark and didn't get back to Burnley until gone half past midnight, also make sure they take plenty of cash they bought a Mr Whipy ice cream from a van outside whilst queuing and it was just a plain one not a 99 and it cost 5 quid, bottled water is given out for free once insideRic_C wrote: ↑Thu Jun 16, 2022 1:30 pmCabbage, I'm dropping off my wife and daughter later for this concert. No idea who Counting Crows are but was listening to Black Crows in the car. I suppose they could do a mash up and call it Counting Black Crows, record it at The Rookery?

Black Crowes biggest hit was Hard to Handle from the Shake Your Money Maker album. I saw them support Stereophonics at Donnington early 2000s.

Bobinho will you be right in the middle of the 1500 "fat old punks" or "At the Edge"?

Ha ha! See what you did there.

“At the edge” of course, and I’ll be wearing my Burnley colours…. Someone has to “fly the flag”.
