A simple ''sorry you were right all along master KRBFC, that's why you're the expert'' would sufficeRileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 7:29 pmI explained in my earlier post. I was interested to see how much better/worse we were after Wood left so searched for the league table for match week 21, which is when he left. But the table displayed was engineered to show the league table after every team had played exactly 21 games - whereas we had only played 17 games at that stage of the season. So it wasn’t a true reflection of how the league table looked after the Leeds game.
We were 18th when he left, and we were 18th at the end of the season, although clearly our points per game increased quite significantly after he left. How much of that was down to Wood leaving we’ll never know.

There would have been completely different passages of play so itnis impossible to compare.

Chris Wood admitted he was not motivated wearing a Claret shirt. No other conclusion than that £25,000,000 Was a great outcome. That his replacenent was no better is another issue. I can only reflect to that embarrassing shameful performance at Norwich. We were hitting balls in the direction of WW which were a foot over his head when he jumped. What about passing to his feets? But he is 6 feet plus! When we got close enough to put a ball into the area it was to 2 immobile centre backs with their only strength to stand put. What were Dyche and Woan and Stone doing the week in preparation. Not for the first time it was inexcusable.

If Dwight McNeil, Connor Roberts, Wout and Josh Brownhill had all turned up for our must win game v Newcastle we would still be playing Premier league games next season.

Re: Chris Wood Would Have Kept Us Up.
There are so many pointless “sliding doors” elements that could have seen us stay up, that is always the case when a goal or two in the last few minutes of a season swings it.
My personal favourites are:
The choice to start 5-3-2 against Newcastle with that weird shifting up of the right back when we get the ball, 4-4-2 we win.
The choice by Mee to rule himself out leaving Collins to make that crucial error.
The choice to sign Weghorst over Origi who would have got 10 goals.
They weren’t choices at all of course, they were to a degree forced, Tarky wasn’t fully fit so protected in a three, neither was Mee, Origi or Liverpool said no. But its nice to pretend things could have been different.

WW didn’t even start against Newcastle (a major error imo but what’s done is done).Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 19, 2022 9:34 amIf Dwight McNeil, Connor Roberts, Wout and Josh Brownhill had all turned up for our must win game v Newcastle we would still be playing Premier league games next season.

It must be relatively quiet on this board at present for a ridiculous thread like this to reach a second page.

Controversial one - Andy Carroll would have kept us up in my opinion

I don't think Newcastle fans have warmed to him if twitter is anything to go by

Re: Chris Wood Would Have Kept Us Up.
Chris Wood has contributed 2 goals, 1 a penalty, and 0 assists in 17 games since joining Newcastle, but he'd have kept us up, aye right course he would.
No wonder they're chasing Timo Werner, and if they do snap the German up this will likely mean Wood being dropped to the subs bench, as TBF many did predict on this forum back in January.
Selling Wood wasn't the problem, it was the donkey we replaced him with that really killed our survival hopes.

Re: Chris Wood Would Have Kept Us Up.
Newcastle were desperate for a proven premier league striker while Wilson was injured
They offered us a ridiculous sum for a 30 year old and we rightly took it
Newcastle managed to stay up because they managed to sign a ridiculously good centre midfielder and Wilson stayed fit
We got relegated because we failed to win enough games before Christmas from winning positions

Logged in to like this post..simple & to the point and describes perfectly the reason we are no longer in the Premier league.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 11:00 amNewcastle were desperate for a proven premier league striker while Wilson was injured
