Blast Finals Day….

Post by dandeclaret » Fri Jul 15, 2022 9:07 am

Parkinson and Salt released by England to play in Finals day for Lancs.

Still a disgrace that the ECB have engineered this clash, so that counties are shorn of their best players for a showcase final. Tickets still available as of yesterday for a day that normally has way more demand than tickets. All in favour of a load of franchised shite.

I looked at the prices when it said Lancs hadn't sold their allocation. Started at £89 but most were way over a hundred.
To say most group games were a tenner I was a little shocked.

When you add on the price of travel then food and drink in the ground (£8 for a burger at Old Trafford last Friday!) it’s no surprise it hasn’t sold out in the current economic climate.

£100 seems fairly decent for a full day with 3 games included.

I know of quite a few attending from Burnley, will be a great day! Loved watching Lancashire win it last time and it felt like there was only about 400 of us there

It becomes especially dear if your team gets knocked out in the first match. I wouldn't be sitting there for the rest of the day on the chance the anaemic rosers might win it.

Exactly, I know some that are waiting for the semi before they book their hotels or just get the train back, I can imagine that once the beer starts flowing they will just book a hotel

I had a couple of hospitality tickets in the basket for me and a mate, and flights identified to come home... .. then the realisation set in of how I would feel if Lancs lost to Yorkshire in the first game, and I'd spent all that cash. I doubt I would see the 2nd semi or final to be honest.

I would have thought you would stay on to support the northern team in the final surely.

There is only one Northern team... and if they've been knocked out, there's nobody left to support. Hampshire, Somerset or YCCC (Yorkshire Cockney Ckolpap Collaboration)

I really do fear for your sanity if Lancs lose to Yorkshire tomorrow ... If I were you I would lie down in a darkened room between 11am and 1.30pm and avoid all social media 😁

A shame Lancs choked at the end, Hampshire celebrating then a no ball being declared did make good drama!

Unlike football the result isn’t everything

My wife, daughter, son and I had a ball. Bumped into a claret or two and, after beating Yorkshire, nothing else mattered

Maybe the best bit was hearing how 20,000+people hate Leeds s*um

Last ball (after the No ball was declared for overstepping)…

1). Incorrect run out due to incorrect removal of bails and stumps (wrong end) and consequently, Lancashire officially ran TWO legitimate runs. Why didn’t this get appealed?

2). It was a ‘FREE HIT’ and consequently, Hampshire were required to maintain the field that they had from the previous delivery (the over-stepping no ball). Hampshire CHANGED their field and therefore this should have resulted in another no ball which also included the two legitimate runs that Lancashire should have been awarded. Why didn’t this get appealed?

I know you can’t turn back time, but surely, SURELY this should’ve been picked up on immediately?

Very poor from the Umpires at the end. Would have been interesting if they’d had a review left. Saying that another finals day bottle job from Lancashire they should have walked that final.

I don’t think reviews matter in this instance.

I was there and picked up in the fact that the wicket keeper had stupidly broken the wicket so you repost that the umpires would refer it as they would a run out.

No idea what repost means but I meant to say that you’d expect the umpires to refer it.

The umpires supposedly called dead ball when signalling the bye apparently.
MCC are backing the umpires and have said the no ball/free hit field change, is just rules of a competition rather than laws of the game.
So see the ECB for clarification.

I thought T20 was brought in for those who don’t like to sit a whole day at the cricket, ie; a game lasts a couple of hours, quick entertainment. Then they have a full finals day of cricket. Completely going against the idea of T20. And charge accordingly, so that you pay for at least one game you are not really interested in. In Yorkshire's case, £100 and over by lunch!!

Bit chaotic at the end to say the least but a fantastic days entertainment.

Destroying Yorkshire with yet another fantastic knock from Vilas as well as Jennings will live long in the memory.

They blew it in the final after an excellent bowling performance put them in pole position but what a great day.

Saw off Yorkies easily but batsmen blew the final chasing a lowish total. Salt, Jennings and David batted irresponsibly, headless chickens!

Still very poor on the part of the umpires for not spotting the field changes. It’s a staple rule of the free hit no ball and in the circumstances they should most certainly be checking it.

Yeah, I agree. Just saying what the MCC have tweeted.

Hants fans claiming Lancs only had 3 in the circle for one ball, that was missed in their innings. I only saw the last few overs of the game.

Threw that final away Lancs.

At least we handed the Yorkies a thrashing, and their wait for a T20 continues.

Hampshire aren't the most attractive side to watch, but they somehow find a way to win tight games.
