Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
Suns out...gingers in.
On a serious note, no need to engage with the utter morons who are trying to spread fear and anxiety across the country. Just be sensible, stay out of the sun in the middle of the day as you normally would, take on plenty of water and it will be back to normal very soon. A couple of days, that's all.
No doubt it will be the fault of global warming, but those of us that saw it all those years ago will probably be a little more pragmatic than the prancing scare-mongerers who will have us all believe it's the end of the world. Plenty of us got thru the three months of a heatwave in '76... this week will be a doddle. Enjoy it if you can - only like being on your holibobs.

What has gone wrong with folk ... its not rocket science to keep hydrated and stay out of the heat of the mid-day sun ... why do folk need to be told how to act in everyday lifebobinho wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 10:53 pmSuns out...gingers in.

My son is a teacher in Sheffield. They are closing the school both tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday afternoon because of the "extreme heat". Seriously?! Apparently, every hour lost in school is totally detrimental to a child's learning. Well, unless it's a bit warm.

Talks about utter morons spreading fear whilst simultaneously regurgitating the utter rubbish he's been fed by the right wing culture war sh*tspreaders who unironically rely on utter morons to just swallow their disinformation at face value without having a clue about the subject or having any interest in understanding the facts and truth of the matter

Looking at those images above. June 2022 was crap, cold and wet where I live. 1976 had something like 10 weeks of hot weather, regularly above 30 degrees. Highest temp was 35 degrees so this year we will beat that.

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
Seen little evidence of this dangerously hot weather yet, the temperature were I live in East Lancashire is nigh on perfect just right for working outside.
Throws my memory back as a 16 year old working on a roof in Milnthorpe for 4 weeks in the heat wave of 76, now that was a summer. Bar a few days this as mainly been cold and miserable

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
I picked and sprayed weeds today in 106f didn’t do me any harm. Mind you, the 2 ice cold bottles of pinot Grigio to recover probably didn’t help

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
There's an increase in deaths during a heat wave as well as increased pressure on the NHS. A few warnings may help reduce these. What's wrong with that?

Nanny state that's what's wrong.
Sat in the garden in the shade and I have goose bumps. The temperature is perfect at the moment with a lovely cool breeze.

1846 temperatures were constantly hotter hitting 110F.
Oh and the reason it is so hot is because of clean air acts there are not enough particulates in the air to absorb the heat.

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
They're going beyond a few warnings. Talking about closing schools - why? Is it cooler at home than it is at school?

I presume 'they' are the Head Teachers who are on the spot and can judge the situation. This heat is supposed to be unprecedented so it's wise to be cautious.

Great visualisation for demonstrating the difference between basing ideas on anomalies and exceptions, rather than systems over time.

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
The core argument in that article is that both sulphate aerosols (created in part by burning fossil fuels causing bad air pollution) AND direct greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide etc. that cause global warming and climate change) need urgently reducing. As often is the case, the headline is a bit misleading, as although aerosols have a cooling effect (reflection not absorption), which is short-lived and localised, compared to the warming effect of greenhouse gases that stay in the atmosphere much longer, they’re also shortening peoples’ lives, especially in urban areas. One solution might be to release particulates to activate that cooling effect and counteract greenhouse gases and the earth would certainly cool a little bit but we’d all suffocate pretty soon after.brexit wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 7:07 pmNo fact

Re: Attention Gingers/Redheads..
There should be limits to the caution. Let them have a non-uniform day by all means, but the forecast is that we might have 1 day hotter than any day ever recorded in the UK. Just 1.

This weather is great.
I might be able to retire over here if it keeps up.
