Lancs v Notts ... Royal London Cup

Post by Clarets4me » Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:59 am

Notts look set for a huge total, 94/0 off 14 overs .... Lancs need a wicket or two, and sharpish !

Well we got 1, but Notts still set fair for a big score, 111-1 with over 30 overs remaining.

165/2 off 30 overs, if you take the old maxim that you double the score to get a rough total, then they're on target for 330 or so ...

Stop Press: 167/3 off 31 ..

Another couple of quick wickets, and we're back in this.

The old maxim appears to be sound. 338 they got in the end.
Tough target.

I’m here (not a particularly big crowd it must be said…. Maybe the test match at OT is preferred by members ) and think it’s doable as the outfield is running nice and fast. We’ll see !!!

Lancs have chased down some totals this season so here's hoping.

Lancs chased 370 to win at Blackpool last week so certainly doable, but Jennings out early is a blow.

175/3 in the 28th, this is definitely on for Lancs if we keep wickets in hand.

185/4 off 30 .... given the formula outlined above, it's doable, just need to keep wickets intact !

Croft 115*, win by 3 wickets with 9 balls to spare.

The last-but-two over had the interesting last three balls of 6-5-4. The 6 and 4 were normal (Lamb hit them), the 5 hit the helmet behind the stumper.

As well as the great Croft innings there, Lamb made a big contribution towards the end too.
I noted that 6-5-4 as well and it must be a first in any cricket Ive played or watched. For the 5- when the ball passed the keeper and hit the helmet, the batsman ran 1 and there was a bit of debate as to whether it was 5 or 6. I dont know the rule but I expect the ball is dead once it hits the helmet. Maybe if you complete a run before the helmet is hit (unlikely) it could count 6 though?

The ball is dead once it hits the helmet (or other equipment) but runs completed, or part completed when the batsmen have crossed, count as well.

So if (as once happened) the ball goes towards the boundary, the wicket keeper throws down his glove and chases after it, the batsmen run two, the keeper throws it in, and the ball hits the keeper's glove on the floor - then that would be 7.

'm sure a scenario could be found, probably involving overthrows, where you could get double figures.

Great to read about another Lancs victory. and Croft showed all his experience during that chase, marking his 6ooth appearance in all forms of cricket with a brilliantly controlled century.

A trip to Sussex awaits, with the winners meeting either Hamps or kent.
