A great woman who was unfortunately let down on numerous occasions by her offspring. Last of a kind.

Re: The Queen
It must have felt odd shaking the hand of a British PM who once wanted to abolish the monarchy. This is a first for our queen, given that not one of her previous 14 PMs had ever advocated such a policy on live TV.

Re: The Queen
Incredible that our present Queen has now reigned over 15 Prime Minster's, starting with Churchill way back in 1952.
TBF to Liz Truss, I for one certainly don't have the radical views I once had in my youth, so it's hardly surprising she's mellowed over time, as a lot of us do with the experience of age.

Re: The Queen
Very upsetting. She looks frail. On top of that she has to put up with a halfwit grandson who’s run amok, a son who’s been getting up to god knows what over a long period and now an incoming prime minister who, in the not too distant past, was extremely fervent in abolishing the monarchy.
Re: The Queen
Were these the views she held when she was a Liberal Democrat and then ditched them when she became a Tory? Has she ever formally changed her opinion on this issue or is she still opposed to the idea of a Monarchy for the country she is PM for?
Re: The Queen
She changes her opinion based on the direction of the prevailing political wind. She's what happens when politics becomes a career rather than a vocation.
I cringe whenever she opens her mouth. How anyone can spend 25 years in public life and still be so useless at speaking to people is beyond me.
I saw something online that said she was like the result of someone making a robot thats supposed to look and sound completely human but the first time you switch it on and see it working, you realize that something isn't quite right.
I really hope for all our sakes that behind the scenes she's a political genius that's across the detail. We're way beyond the point where a few slogans and a photo opportunity are going to cut it.

Re: The Queen
I equally have severe doubts over whether Truss is up to the task, but I wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence, we have to hope she will find practical solutions to the current crisis for the sake of millions in this country, by all accounts she is more into detail than Boris, so that's an improvement at least, but the proof will be in the pudding won't it whether she can deliver or not.Sproggy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 5:51 amShe changes her opinion based on the direction of the prevailing political wind. The absolute bare minimum for a politician is to be able to speak well, to convey ideas - whatever they are.
The rest of Europe will run rings around her. In their second, third or fourth language.

Re: The Queen
She wanted to abolish the monarchy when it went through a lull in popularity. Likewise, she was by far the most passionate Remainer in the Govt, but changed overnight into a very hardline Brexiter when she realised she had staked everything on the wrong horse. Truss had to do this, as a passionate former Remainer, she couldn't appear half-hearted when playing to the hard-right of her party. These are only two examples of a political career that is littered with Damascene conversions.
She's an odd character who couldn't even get the majority of her own MPs to support her leadership bid. Also, Sunak's 42.6% wasn't the disaster it was predicted to be by her friends in the press. She has the smallest winning share of the membership vote than her predecessors. Truss isn't a good politician - the Tories need to unite, however her Cabinet is made up of sycophants. The makeup of her Govt could have gone some way to heal the divisions in her party.
Nuclear Free Zones to Charisma Free Zone. There's one thing though, she makes dull Starmer appear charismatic.

Dyche to the palace
Dyche to number 10
Dyche to Westminster.
Just good to get those out of the way. I am struggling to think that he would have been a worse choice for the middle option.
Truss only got in with just over 80,000 votes. Dyche would get more than that just from those with burnley tendencies.

I noticed bruising on the back of the Queen’s hand, I wondered if they were from a cannula, possible had some kind of infusion/drip. She did look frail though compared to the last time she was seen in public, but like people say she is of an age

Re: The Queen
Unfortunately once you realise that politics really is simply a career choice you inevitably stop listening to anything they say or taking any of it seriously. When they talk about "winning over the voters" it's patently obvious it's about saying the right things rather than doing what you once believed in. Many clergymen are exactly the same. It's a career path and a very good one if you're ambitious enough and know how to work it. Disappointing though.Sproggy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 5:51 amShe changes her opinion based on the direction of the prevailing political wind.
