The games he got slated in, he was crap

Today he was good, doesn't suddenly mean the Games he was crap in, he suddenly became better

It's life, some games are good, others are poor, as you grow up you'll come to realise it more

Nobody should be beyond criticism

No need to call people clowns just because they don't agree with you

I too am buzzing for him today, as should any Burnley fan.... Doesn't mean he hasn't had bad games

He’s been embarrassingly bad this season yet superb today . He’s hung in there and his confidence is high , brilliant to see him bag today . He’s a true club legend but past performance means nothing in elite sport .

As you can see though, very reluctant to eat their words and in some cases still wanting to stress how poor they think he has been, in one post stating that he has been poor for three seasons. This season he has had to change and adapt a different playing style. What I can’t understand is why the critics didn’t think he had earned enough respect to avoid the abusive posts. Critics not allowing enough recovery time from two hernia ops so close together that I can only assume the first op did not go to plan. Personally I just wish fans would not judge game by game on any player. Apparently ‘you’ll always be a claret’ get’s taken away from you if you are struggling with form. Why not judge players on their best form instead of their worst form or even put the good and not so good together when making judgements. Anyway great day, shame the critics still have the knives out, faint praise through gritted teeth. UTC.

He has been very good last few games because he has stopped playing for fouls and is now playing to score. I might be wrong, but I don't remember him ending up on the floor asking for a free kick today. Long may it continue as he looks a different player.

Not faint praise , as I've said many times, he was superb today

But, be honest..... When was his last good game?

Hi Nori, not necessarily having a pop at you, only those who still want to refer back to justify the over the top blasting of Ashley. I’ve been frustrated at times with some aspects of his playing style. Nowt wrong with justified criticism. We can’t all agree on the merits of all who wear the Claret and Blue, but we can be more respectful and avoid personal dog’s abuse. On a personal level I would just prefer we maintained a certain level of respect to be offered to our players. That’s all.

Jay is still a far better "footballer" and like virtually everyone else I feared for us when he wasn't fit and Ashley was selected, but let's give huge credit where it's due as Ash was where it mattered today, when it mattered and that's all you can ask of a striker. He might or might not be passed it, but he's too bloody good for that lot from down the road!

No doubt that would have been the case, if not for the few coming on calling people names, because they had dared to say Barnes had a poor game a month ago

Regarding Barnes he was fantastic today, so huge credit for that, and he also played well Tuesday.

However a couple of swallows don't make a summer, and he has been poor for a good while recently.

Hopefully the goals he's netted this week will spur him on to continue in this vein, because if he could chip in with say 8-10 goals over the rest of the season it wouldn't half ease the pressure on Jay to shoulder the burden.

Let's just bask in the enjoyment of beating Rovers 3-0 first though eh.

The difference is that today our pacy and skilful players were providing him with opportunities. Ash still has a good footballing brain and knows his way around the penalty area.
In the first half at Sunderland we were just lumping the ball uo to him hoping thst something would happen. It was reminiscent of last season.

It shouldn't work that way people should still be able to celebrate whilst highlighting the complete & utter garbage that was spouted earlier all the derogatory comments aimed. The problem that's apparent is split between some members of this forum that are extremely knowledgeable about football whilst some know absolutely nothing. The people defending Barnes were in the know & realised he had a part to play still, opinions which transpire to be nonsense should be accountable & reminded.

Haha.

This was my first thought when he scored.

He didn’t deserve some of the stick he was getting, and from a fair few on here there was zero respect for what he’s given us over the years (similar situation with dyche).

At the end of the day though all football fans are the same, it’s not just Burnley.

But, sod that for now… what a day today was 😊

It's one of them you are only as good as your last game trouble being you'd have to go back some way until he last had 1, he should have been moved on earlier but it's not his fault he's still here & still getting picked the way some people comment would suggest that's isn't the case.

The saying goes your never too old to.learn and he has had to.adjust to.this new fast exciting foitball, played by this mostly young team. Our two superb wingers have put in many crosses this season and there has been noone there to finish. Today Barnes was there and did finish. It wont work every gsme but it did today and may well work in other games. The whole team soaked up.the atmosphere created by a great support today. Look at VK's gestures to the CF stand at the end.

Always in the locker he's got the passion for certain games & its capable of rising, all in all he has underperformed but showing disrespect has truly bitten some people on the bum today & reminded some knockers the bloke isn't finished yet. It's normal to have doubts but also be mindful of what you state retrospectively speaking.

Its not only good for BFC now that Rodriguez is such an injury doubt, but also good for Barnes himself and his confidence. He has been a "bit part" player all season generating bad feedback from many fans-today he has silenced the critics and shown the team he still has it in his locker. He still has a big part to play between December and May. Well done VK for the way you have managed him

Eh?
Jakub talking as much sense as usual.....
Posters - especially those who have actually seen him play - have commented on Barnes' poor performances and lack of effectiveness in the way this team is set up to play.
Fully justified as is the realisation that his time on the field is limited and his career with BFC is nearing its end, relatively speaking.
Circumstances have dictated that he must come into the side and, the decent pro that he always has been, has taken full advantage of that with knobs on.
Throw in the correct amount of awkwardness as opposed to his earlier silliness and you have a cracking performance.
Let's hope that he can continue to contribute in a similar fashion way every time he is called into action.

Eddie was the 1 slating previously & now probably feels a bit daft it's in keeping with the poster consistency levels. It would be nice if some posters recognised an admission of talking out of their backsides previously & left it there.

Eddie was the 1 slating previously & now probably feels a bit daft it's in keeping with the poster consistency levels. It would be nice if some posters recognised an admission of talking out of their backsides previously & left it there.
You are lying.
If you look at the thread that I began a couple of months ago, I stated quite clearly that his record was excellent but his performances and behaviour on the field did not merit him being picked.
I stand by that.
I also said that his time at Burnley is limited and his role, if any, would be to deputise for any injured players until we can enter the transfer market or, for example, Twine becomes fit.
I stand by that, too.

Which bit, Jakub, would you dispute?

You know nothing and can barely write a sentence but, to your credit, you still plug away showing what a useless get you are.

So Ashley Barnes' day in bullet points:

1. Starts the game unexpectedly (even he didn't know till today), but he's bang on it.
2. Nearly scores in the first half
3. Scores the first and then pushes the keeper into the back of the net
4. Great volley which is saved for the second goal
5. Cooly slots home the third goal
6. Gets man of the match
7. Calls Blackburn B*stards in a tv interview

Job done :)

We all know this it's old hat the blokes in decline I don't think any Burnley fan would argue against this. Today he rolled back the years & produced the magic let's just be happy eh? There's been absolutely no need for the lack of respect you've shown the bloke for months he doesn't pick himself & has always shown the effort if the end products been lacking. There's a way of conducting yourself in a respectful manner whilst still getting your point across. Not quite sure on any behavioural issues which would stand against the merit of selection he's been the model professional on the field if you ignore the drink driving.

Right kids if you carry on I’ll be taking your phones. You’ll be able to collect them at the end of class.

And you prove my point yet again. You try to put a point across and it invariably falls on its arse.
Try to halt the stupid streams of consciousness you spurt and break down your thoughts into logical, bite - sized chunks rather than gibberish.

You say, for instance, that you don't think any Burnley fan would argue against my point of Barnes being past his best but then go on to say that in saying that I'm showing disrespect towards the lad.... So are all BFC fans disrespectful towards Barnes or are you desperately singling me out for some weird reason?

As for the months of "Barnes not picking himself", I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

Again, if you'd actually seen Barnes in action, you would agree his performances were poor, not his commitment, and he was, almost pathetically, reduced to floundering around, desperately trying to con the ref into awarding non- existent fee kicks.

This was how it was and Barnes' present and future roles were discussed quite robustly but at no point, as I remember, was Barnes' past value to the club nor his commitment ever questioned.
The big questions were how long would he stay and, realistically, what role would he play?
Well, most of us knew what it would be, at least until January, and today he played it remarkably well.

So, I hope that clears any doubt up. I know you don't watch the Clarets but you can at least read if not write.
Please think carefully before entering into discussion and certainly pack the lying in.
It doesn't worry me but you don't half make yourself look a fool.

Throwing their keeper into the back of the net like a piece of garbage after a cracking headed goal was defo the best moment of the match! Rock on Barnsey!
