Barcelona / Nou Camp

Post by Milltown1882 » Mon Dec 26, 2022 7:22 pm

The other half surprised me with a trip to Barca for new years and tickets for Barcelona v Espanyol on New Year’s Eve.

I know we’ve got a very well travelled board on here, would be great if anyone has any recommendations for sightseeing/restaurants etc that have been there before?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.

Avoid Las Ramblas at night at all costs.

You’ll find decent bars/restaurants all over the city, there are far too many to recommend.

Not sure what will be open at this time of the year of course, but visiting the more famous Gaudi buildings/pieces (Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo, or the park Guell) is something that you can guarantee you can at least see from the outside. Hugely impressive.

The fountain show up Montjuic is lovely at night too. Also, it goes without saying if you’re going to Camp Nou, get yourself on the tour there - it’s excellent.

Surprise her right back and show your hotel bookings in the Stoke and Swansea Travelodges and tickets for the games.
It's romantic gestures like this that keep relationships alive.

Visit the main el.corte ingles shopping centre at the top of la ramblas and head to the cafe on the top floor, magnificent views. Also cable car up to tibidabo is good, plus the bars around the Barceloneta area are nice. So much to see there but the main thing is just wander round and take it all in - la Sagrada familia is something to behold.

An amazing surprise I have been lucky enough to get myself!! We went to the game VS Betis and it's something I'll never forget.

Get a railcard as it's brilliantly all connected underground - we had a different hotel for NYE which was closer to the Mont Juic celebrations so managed to avoid it that night but for the 4 days it easily allowed us to get to and from La Segrada Familia, the Port area/aquarium and up to Tibidabo which I would absolutely recommend just for the view over the whole of Barcelona - have a look on Google!

Jammy sod. Barcelona is a great place - the Nou Camp is spectacular. Do the stadium tour if you can. Mrs Inho loved it and she has ZERO interest in footy.

*The game was the day before NYE 2015 and was 4-0 with Suarez and Messi both scoring, unbelievable atmosphere with Barca hitting the woodwork 5 times including Neymar slipping and scooping a penalty onto the bar!

Great views from the castle at the top of Montjuic. Walk, bus or cable car up. Walk down via Olympic Stadium, cafe, to National Museum of Catalonia. Even if you are not into art it’s a great route down.
Tibidabo mentioned higher up. The cable car doesn’t open until nearer Easter. As we sadly discovered.
Used to be a great Italian in Placa Reial just off the Ramblas.

Stay away from las ramblas after dark! Been to Barcelona twice and always find it a bit moody down there. So many bars and restaurants to as listed above. Book in advance where you want to eat. Barca v Espanyol is quite a fierce derby, certainly for the Espanyol fans so wear your Burnley shirt and they will appreciate class.

I went to Espanyol v Barcelona a few years ago and, if I'd not spent a lot of time going to football, it would have been pretty rough. A load of riot police and a bit of a crush going in and then a load of Espanyol fans lobbing seats and stuff at the Barcelona fans (a very small number of them given how local it is) who were sheltering in the concourses as the riot police laid into the Espanyol fans.
