Re: THB
When THB went off I was impressed at how Beyer took over responsibility and immediately upped his game. At first he was careful not to involve a jittery McNally, but gradually nursed him into the game. A natural leader is Beyer.
McNally himself was excellent in the air throughout and if he replaces THB for the next few games this could be a welcome bonus, but he initially seemed a bit casual on the ball and his first time passing was streaky.
However as others said he grew into the game and played well against an increasingly desperate Premier team.

Re: THB
He is indeed, but to suggest that an injury to THB and THB alone is a reason we might not finish in the top 2, is to also suggest THB is the reason we ARE in the top 2. Which is clearly not the case. A huge miss, of that there's no doubt, but I think we have more than enough cover between McNally, Taylor and even CJE-R, before we even consider bringing in another Centre Half.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 9:58 pmThis is the one and only injury that can stop us being in the top 2

It's a blow, but not the end of the world and it's testament to the way Kompany has recruited and speaks that we know, we'll be fine.

Re: THB
Mcnally did ok for someone who hadn’t played. Curious if VK goes with experience (Taylor at lcb) or the future with McNally.

Re: THB
Taylor can do a job at LB and CB. If not starting, frees up a sub for the attacking options. If starting, then McNally has really staked a claim

Re: THB
Injuries happen during a long season, and if we can't finish top 2 now after building such a huge lead, with or without THB then we simply don't deserve to be promoted automatically.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 9:58 pmThis is the one and only injury that can stop us being in the top 2

And if he's side-lined for some games we've got enough to cope surely given our present resources, and if we need to bring in a replacement I've no doubt VK will act decisively.
Ideally you never want to disrupt a settled CB pair, however McNally did well by all accounts yesterday, and Charlie can cover if needed.

One of the times, not long after breaking it, I was out in town at an Oktoberfest night p*ssed out of my head dancing, jumping around and even falling over a few times (its hard to keep your balance in those boots when you're hammered) and it didn't damage or hurt my foot one little bit.
Biggest problem I had was timing when I could get back to sport as went to early one time and managed to re-break it.
You've broken my 5th metatarsal bone 3 times? Well if so thats bad luck oe bad management.
But sure its not a Yorkshireman tale 'aka' Monty Python?
I've broken my 5th metatarsal bone 3 times.
Thats nothing I had to have my knee cap replaced twice
Thats nothing my foot had to be stitched back on
Thats nothing to when my leg had to be replaced
Haha a bit of levity is a good thing. Hope your foots OK now. Most of all I hoe THB is not injured too seriously.

Re: THB
Maatsen was warming up in full kit with the others but not included in the line-up. It looked like he was undergoing a fitness test after the others went in. That was on the opposite side to the Burnley fans and from where I was sat it looked like he was 100% OK - sprinting flat out up and down half of the pitch.

True, my mind is elsewhere this morning. Maybe he is going back to Chelsea then as some are alluding to. But I still think it's more likely he was completely rested.

Very little chance of Maatsen being recalled when you look at Chelsea's squad depth

With all of Chelsea's injuries they're down to their last 50 fit players!

Re: THB
Not sure why anyone would be picking Taylor ahead of McNally at CB.
McNally is an excellent header of the ball, and his extra height could be crucial in some of the games we've got coming up.
But, hopefully, THB wont be out for long.

Re: THB
Kompany has already done it a few times this season and I dare say would opt for Taylor again if THB is out.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:49 pmNot sure why anyone would be picking Taylor ahead of McNally at CB.

Re: THB
While McNally played well yesterday it is clear there is not enough evidence that he could comfortably slot into a first choice central defensive position. Unlike Taylor who has been second choice full back this year and has shown evidence that he could do a good central defensive job.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:49 pmNot sure why anyone would be picking Taylor ahead of McNally at CB.

I make this point even though I would prefer Taylor to play left back in a full strength team

Re: THB
Looks like we're in for another CB regardless of the outcome of THB's injury. but at some time we have to use our squad to its full extent, McNally will be fine standing in for THB, that's why we signed himElizabeth wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:30 pmWhile McNally played well yesterday it is clear there is not enough evidence that he could comfortably slot into a first choice central defensive position. The headline writes cheques the article can't cash:
"I don’t know,” Kompany told Lancs Live.
“That is what they do these days, protective boots, it might not be that bad.”

Re: THB
Hoping THB is back ASAP.
Wonder when we'll see more of CJER at any point during THB's absence. Seemed to have decent distribution during his cameo's playing in CM. You'd think he could play a similar role to THB.
You'd also think using acronyms for these players with double-barrelled names would save time writing. It does not.
