Re: Andy Murray
Murray isn't the player he was in his heyday, but you can't deny he's still a fighter who gives his all.
5 set thriller in round 1, and it wouldn't be a surprise if this one went the distance as well.

Re: Andy Murray
Love Murray, never quits. Quite ridiculous playing still at 2.35am with possibility of a 5th set to come and they play again in 2days. Next opponent, Batistuta Agut, must be thrilled.
Re: Andy Murray
Murray the better player by Murray the Greek Aussie serve is ace after ace, in between. He must be 6 foot 8 inches. He is huge!
Re: Andy Murray
4 - 2 Murray!

Retired and should have stayed retired. If he loses he will be crying and retire again just to get the publicity he wants. Don't like him!!

Re: Andy Murray
Whether you like him or not, his ability to fight for every single point is something that only real champions have
Suspect the 5th might be too much for him, but if you are going to go out with a bang, then this is exactly how you do it

Re: Andy Murray
Brilliant from Murray.
He beat the Wimbledon finalist in the first round and now coming back from 2 sets down.
He’s playing guys much younger and looks like he’s just out there to enjoy himself and still loves competing.
Why retire when he clearly loves the sport.
Don’t get the animosity towards him from some people. Arguably the most successful British sportsman ever - at the very least he’s up there. And always to me seemed like a really good bloke.

Re: Andy Murray
Wouldn’t be that difficult.
Tennis is one of the most popular world wide sports and one of the most financially lucrative in terms of prize money, sponsorship etc.
Bearing in mind he was also playing in the era of the 3 best mens players in history his achievements were pretty good !
Re: Andy Murray
3 all final set. Murray winning on the court. KOKKINAKIS serve winning lots of ace points.
Re: Andy Murray
Love 40 Murray.

Blimey back to deuce and nothing he could do!

I think I’ll get up now. Had a duvet day watching that.

I’d say it will be an impossible task really after two long games to be ready to play at that level again in a few days, but then again, I’d put nothing past himColburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 5:08 pmBrilliant, it's going to take some recuperation for the next round though.

Re: Andy Murray
What a legend!
11th time he has come back from 2 sets down - a record apparently.
And the only one to do it with a metal hip.
Incredible sportsman

Murray v BA head2head. BA won last 3 after Andy won first 3.
Re: Andy Murray
After watching until 5 - 5 and having to leave to pick up grand daughter, I caught the end on radio 5 Live extra.
Amazing and typical Sir Andy. Having played 10.5 hours in 2 rounds, I am not sure his tank will be replenished for R3. However, I think he has cemented his place in Australian tennis history.
Fantastic!

I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but I've watched him since he was 17 and he's undoubtedly one of our greatest sports stars of all time, he's certainly one of my favorites. I just hope he can recover for the next round after two grueling back to back matches. To come back from the injuries and set back he's had and reach those levels at 35 is just phenomenal.

Re: Andy Murray
Ridiculous win by Murray, 2 sets and 5-2 down yet he somehow summons up the reserves to win it.
He'll do well to recover in time for round 3, but he does appear to have the appetite so who knows.

Re: Andy Murray
Murray in the top 10 of all time.
We can justify that on Grand Slam finals alone where he is in the top 10 - despite having to often play one of the big three in the semi each time.
No doubts without Djokovic he would have 10+ grand slams.

Great stuff by Murray.
Absolutely ludicrous times in the Aussie Open. Why are they starting games at 10pm at night? Can they not organise the tournament better?

Well, he won so he didn't cry and he never actually retired he just suggested it in 2019. And he's also a British tennis legend.Barlickclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 19, 2023 3:54 pmRetired and should have stayed retired. Wow, jumping on the bandwagon, I bet youve only being going on turf since we got in prem. Its an opinion which is what this board is about. But going back to best British tennis player, he's Scottish when he wins, British when he loses.
