Duncan Ferguson appointed new FGR manager
So he can be ruled out of the frame for Everton, if indeed he every was under consideration anyway.

Been waiting for a position since leaving he Toffees, but if Everton have to work down their list it could be a master stroke, they could have compo in a couple of days.

With Tony Grant as his assistant.

Me too, he had a touch of class about him. Under appreciated by many, similar to Paul Cook and David Jones.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 3:47 pmThat is a blast from the past. I was over the moon with the signing of Grant at the time. I assumed he was still at Everton in the background.

Can’t believe he will be able to survive on falafel and without his daily ration of raw meat.

I don't know how to put photos on here, but here's his Wikipedia page.
Did he always look like that?

I remember the comparison back then!

Old Nic Lyndhurst seems to have aged slightly better though.

Christ he is only 7 years older than me. Why do so many footballers age so badly??fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 3:53 pmI don't know how to put photos on here, but here's his Wikipedia page.

I'd like to think I look better for my age than he does but then maybe I am just in denial.

Re: Duncan Ferguson appointed new FGR manager
I think it's partly explained by the stopping of training every day. Having said that, Grant is still a coach, so it's not like he's sat around in his armchair smoking fags all day!
Staying with the Everton theme, have you seen Neville Southall lately? My goodness!

Re: Duncan Ferguson appointed new FGR manager
We're a long time in the final phase of being a football supporter.
We start off being younger than the players, then for a while we're the same age or similar to the current players, then one day you realise you're older than anyone left in the squad.
My own realisation came when Grezza moved on. It's at that point I first felt old!

I could never understand the lack of appreciation for Cook, Grant and Jones. Three outstanding signings for us.

All could control the ball and pass it to one their teammates - sounds simple but surprising how many players struggle !
Jones in particular was a really important signing for us. He started so many moves for us and was integral to the success of that first Dyche team.
Never understood those fans who could not see what he brought to the team.
Re: Duncan Ferguson appointed new FGR manager
I liked Jones. Marney would not have been so effective without him. Great partnership.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 8:50 pmAll very good footballers.

Forest Green Rovers led 1-0 at Shrewsbury yesterday heading into stoppage time, yet conspired to lose 2-1 to a 98th minute winner.

Forest Green
First female manager in mens football
Re: Forest Green
Only interim until they find a permanent manager, but still a significant milestone. Given the way they operate and what they (or rather, the owner) stands for, FGR were always probably the most inevitable team appoint a female coach. People have even mentioned it on here that they'd expect it from them. Even though she's effectively just overseeing pre-season, good luck to her.
Re: Forest Green
The issue won't be her and her skill/talent level, it will be the mens attitude to her. I think football will highlight how tough it can be for female managers in other industries as well.
Hope she is a success.

Re: Duncan Ferguson appointed new FGR manager
FGR have now appointed a new manager and it's not the interim - someone called David Horseman who was a coach at Southampton last season

To be fair, she apparently didn’t even apply for the job on a permanent basis and will revert to her original role as Academy Manager.
