Josh Cullen

Tella will likely receive most of the plaudits (hard not to after a hat-trick), Cullen though was the engine in that display - superb in possession, superb out of possession - like a metronome just ticking away in the middle.

Early season I thought Cullen was a tidy midfielder but maybe a bit too safe and a bit of a sideways pass merchant.

As the season has gone on and on he’s the only gotten better and better.

Probably one of/the best midfielder in the championship.

Love watching him. Tactically so clever which allows him to seemingly always have time and space on the ball, add to that he works his arse off.

I saw some Anderlecht fans on twitter recently say how €3m was daylight robbery and how much they miss him this season - they aren’t wrong.

He was good at the start of the season but recently he’s been even better, simply a wonderful footballer.

Suits playing as the single holding midfielder rather than in a 2

I reckon Kompany would've signed him to whichever club he'd have joined last summer. Can almost imagine Kompany in those early days saying "Everyone. Watch Josh, this is how we're going to play."

I think he'd have signed him even if we'd stayed up.

As in, I think he'd have signed Cullen. Not that he'd have signed me aswell. Although I reckon I would've been okay against that Preston side today.

Great player. Reads the game very well. Slick movement and passing. We are a far better side with him in it.

An absolute Rolls Royce of a central midfielder. His positioning has always been excellent, but he now drives forward more with the ball too. What a signing.

Absolute gem of a footballer. So, so tidy on the ball. Can't wait to see how he fairs against PL opposition on a regular basis (well, just in case we manage to scrap our way to promotion ;) )

Honestly think he’ll do well. I just hope we buy an athletic, physically dominant central midfielder to play alongside him. But everything else about his game has PL quality no doubt.

Glued that performance together today, just as he did last week at Norwich. He's proving an outstanding player at this level - a proper push and run player.

But the real engine for me was Barnes. A masterclass in how to be a physical centre forward in a possession team.

Barnes has really come to life in his recent run in the team.

I think it might take him a little while but I saw a few positive signs from Foster today as well, which was pleasing.

Watched the cup game from a great view the BLS and you see how good Cullen is with the ball under pressure too. As Spice mentioned, Barnes excellent again and at times was a central midfield player linking play up well. He also really suits the system well allowing Tella to get in behind.

Yep. Looked to me like Kompany was encouraging the team to give Foster the ball with his back to goal get him laying the ball off as much as possible. He looked pretty uncomfortable initially but I thought his touch and pass became more assured the longer he was on.

Cullen is a proper footballer. Passes, and moves. Never stands still.

I think he’s the one player we’d miss above others, he’s unreal in that role, which is probably the toughest role on the pitch
