Thank you Rovers

Post by MT03ALG » Tue Feb 28, 2023 11:42 pm

There is nearly always a surprise result in the FA Cup so Rovers might have done us a favour by providing the surprise tonight.
Hopefully no more surprise results tomorrow night :) :)

I really don't think anyone at Burnley will be taking anything for granted tonight but the Leicester/Rovers result should be a timely reminder of what can happen if they do!

Was it that much of a surprise?

Last night Rovers were 10/3 to win. Tonight Fleetwood are 12/1

I picked this equine quote up from the BBC FA Cup feed:

“ let's get some reaction to Tuesday's night's FA Cup ties, starting with a hoarse Blackburn supporter...”

I’d be happy if Sheffield took out Tottenham.

Congrats to B'tard Rovers. A brilliant achievement. 2 East Lancashire sides in the 6th round is a fantastic achievement.

Wow! steady on Ian we haven't yet secured our 6th round place, let's not tempt fate and risk jinxing it.

Excellent result for them.

Look forward to them giving us a guard of honour near the end of April :D

It is always good for teams that are still in it if premier league sides get knocked out

Course, we have to make sure we don't suffer the same fate tonight

One name in football I will never, ever, forget. Dickie Guy.

The most amazing goalkeeping performance I have ever seen, bar none.

A better result for them was the Luton Millwall draw

Great that they're still plugging away in the cup, hopefully it distracts them from their charge for the title.

If there was anything that i don't want to remember that was it .

Always recall a fan at the end jumped off the wall in BL stand and went over on his leg , poor chat just hobbled on the pitch .

Credit where its due, Rovers played really well last night. Tenacious in the tackle, quick on the break, should have scored more. Leicester looked dreadful, perhaps they are nowadays?

Sorry I saw the 10/3 on a mates screenshot but that was to qualify. Fleetwood 8/1 to qualify tonight.

Blackburn played very good football and deserved the win

Hoping they get a similar win when they play Sheff Utd on Sat ;)

Yep you are dead right...of course 49 years ago we were at Hillsborough and my young self had a major disappointment in life. Looking back it just prepared me for my life ahead (watching The Clarets).

Wimbledon was 1975 - I still think Newcastle was harder to take, but both were tough. Worse was to follow.

Hey Buxton, love the slightly understated ‘half decent’. The game was played mostly in their half but old Dickie was equal to everything. He did pretty much the same again at Leeds in the next round but they only drew there, unfortunately losing the replay. I remember being so shocked I wasn’t even angry, they were a Southern Premier League side away to a (then I think) top six First Division (PL) side. We had a good side and we really should have battered them.

Half decent is all he gets. (I'm still trying to get over it)
Ok. He was brilliant.
Was it a Fletch header he somehow kept out, low down in the Beehole End?

I was really gutted they didn't get past Leeds. Dickies pen save gave them the replay. Was it at Chelsea,?
Truth being, Wimbledon are a real life football fairy tale, when they went from non league to winning the cup in not much over a decade after beating us.
It's just a crying shame they're now just a franchise, long past their roots, and the people that once followed them.
A bit of an insight into what professional footy is now.

On the subject of the Wimbledon match in '75, I was in an east London pub about 20 years ago and got introduced to an older bloke because I was a Burnley fan. He immediately brought the match up, waxing lyrical about it. I said: 'Did you go?' He said: 'Did I go? Did I go? I was playing.
