It’s a strange one bud but I understand the sentiment behind it, I just can’t see how, if you have for instance a car accident that doesn’t kill you but you wind up severely disabled with brain damage how that can possibly make you stronger. A friend of mine had a stroke and he survived but he now needs 24 hour care.
Apologies for being a bit pedantic but it just seems like one of those phrases that looks good until you look at the detail, then it all kinda falls apart.
Fair point.

If you're going down, go down swinging.

Never, never, never, never give up.

Don't cheap out on things that you stand in, sit in or sleep in.

Is this a line from a film?

Because it was the Japanese that bombed Pearl Harbour, or am I missing the joke?
John Belushi in Animal House.

Heard this piece of wisdom at a funeral
“Love a lot, trust a few, always paddle your own canoe”

Love it.

I spent a long time working in Sub Saharan Africa. When I first arrived I was given a great piece of advice by an old sweat who'd done the rounds.
He said to me that the Africans were a lovely, kind people with a happy nature but with a tendency to screw things up. His advice was to "always laugh with them, never laugh at them!" It served me well in many situations I found myself in all over the world.

No matter how old you are, you'll never be cool driving a Jag.*

*you're allowed to think so if you're over 60, but note, you aren't.
Hi TE, I'm well over 60 and am driving my 2nd Jag and I don't give a damn about being cool :D
They're great cars but don't tell anyone, as they might become cool :o

Another one that I think comes from Africa is…speak quietly but carry a big stick.

I hope your plumber doesn’t live by that rule Falcon!Or your dentist, doctor etc. etc. etc.
In fact what a world we would live in if people didn’t try to to sort out other people’s problems.

I like this rule for life from Vaclav Havel:

Keep the company of those who seek the Truth. Run from those who have found it.

Also:

Anyone who takes himself too seriously always runs the risk of looking ridiculous, anyone who can consistently laugh at himself does not.

The higher you climb up a ladder, the further you have to fall.
