TOMORROW Prematch exhibition launch at Burnley library
TOMORROW Prematch exhibition launch at Burnley library
Mar 11 10am-2pm downstairs at Burnley Library.
Drop in for a brew and two exhibitions.
There will be Bob Lord – Burnley Born and Bred, which was first shown at Towneley Hall in 2019, and a new display of images from the Burnley Express: Far from the Madding Crowd – away from the match, the Clarets 1963-1984.
As well other old Clarets photographs to look at, and old maps and plans of Turf Moor to see, there will be some original criminal records – what did John Ryan and Albert Jackson nick when they broke into the dressing rooms in 1907?! Why not come along and find out!

Very interesting davidjt. I do not live in the UK but would have certainly dropped in. I am very interested in old maps and plans. Would these be viewable on-line after the exhibition please?

Would love to see this but tomorrow is likely not going to happen. This may be very relevant for later research though, do you know where it will being archived, afterwards, please?davidjt wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 11:34 amMar 11 10am-2pm downstairs at Burnley Library.

Am I right in assuming the exhibits are from private collections Dave?
Great that it’s running for a while, I need to visit Burnley library as part of my Famine research in the next week or two, so that is ideal and has reminded me I need to start contacting local curators.

The plans - some early original plans of the ground - will only be on show today unfortunately, and aren’t yet online.
Here’s a link to an OS map showing the Turf in c1892 and this site is great for old maps generally.

Re: TOMORROW Prematch exhibition launch at Burnley library
Elwa the exhibition is a sort of intro to a permanent project that is underway. As I head towards the end of the perch my collection of stuff needs a home. We call it stuff for the sake of brevity. Nobody in the family wants it so it will no doubt go in a skip one day. Books, BFC books, general football books, annuals, magazines, photographs, Football Monthly, Goal, Shoot, videos, DVDs and the 40+ files and box files and stuff that have accumulated, writing for the last 20+ years.
All this will form the basis of a reading, resource, research area downstairs available for anyone to browse, read, research in a warm comfy designated area, schools, veterans, dementia groups, any community groups, any individuals with an interest in BFC and football. Former footballers have agreed to meet and chat with small groups when it is up and running. It will take the whole summer to get established.
If anyone has items they would like to donate that would otherwise end up thrown away please contact me at beehive thomas at aol dot com and we can let you know when we are ready to receive them. Not shirts or scarves, or programmes we have been gifted a compete collection from the 40s; looking for the moment for written material, oh and scrapbooks that might be stuck up in the loft or back of a cupboard.
A second room will be available eventually for talks, lectures and films.
All of this is with support from Club and BFC int Community.

Re: TOMORROW Prematch exhibition launch at Burnley library
I visited today for an hour…but really needed another 2hours to do it justice!
Loved everything about the exhibition…especially some of the ‘unseen’ photos from 1962 Cup Final…also photos of the team in fun/relaxing poses at Gawthorpe.
Congratulations and thankyou to all involved so far!
Thanks DT!

Please let me know if it’s heading for a skip. Sounds like a resource that needs preserving, sure there are archives that would welcome it with open arms. Lancashire Archive for a starters would be delighted I’m sure.Rodleydave wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 8:48 amElwa the exhibition is a sort of intro to a permanent project that is underway. My brother took my dad down this morning Dave & he thoroughly enjoyed the old photos by all accounts.
