Absolute legend for Burnley- at least this way we get a chance to thanks him.

Any chance he rolls up at Everton next season?

I'm pleased that he's ending on a high because it certainly didn't look that way at the start of the season

Been a legend for us but this is the right decision for everybody

I forever remember the City game where he bullied French international Eliaquim Mangala so convincingly that it ended the guy's top level career.
He always felt more of a threat against the bigger teams, definite big game player.
Going out on a high.
Hasn't he scored against all the "top" teams bar Chelsea?

Absolutely love ash the bash who is a modern day icon for us but there’s no room for sentiment in the premier league.

I’d hope he can go somewhere and get games at a decent level next season.

Said it a couple of months ago but Kompany is taking sentiment out of it and it is a business decision - a slot in the squad that can be taken up by someone younger, better and more equipped for PL level.

Barnes has been incredible this season. Last night was very emotional for him and a lot of supporters too. But it is the right decision and I’m super happy that Barnes gets to go out on top and as a hero. Burnley legend.

The ovation he got last night was something else considering none of us in the ground knew what he'd said on telly. He deserves this promotion as much as anyone, he's been vital to it along with the other older players.

Wherever he goes I hope it's not because some club wants a hard man, a shithouse or whatever, but because they wasn't a footballer. He's proved once again that's what he is.

Plymouth could be a decent move for him if they get promoted. Think that's where he started out.
Plymouth perhaps or Bristol City, back around where his family is and where he’s from.

I’ll always be a Bashley fan, he’s leaving behind some legacy

For our first 8 games, I feared seeing his name on the teamsheet. It felt like the Burnley that Ashley represented was a thing of the past and his antics of falling over every time he was touched was embarrassing, and prevented us playing the football we were now enjoying.

But boy has he proved me wrong. In the months since he adapted to the new style of play and put everything on the line every game. He has been a brilliant player for us, and his interview brought a tear to my eye last night. Thank you Ashley for everything you have done for Burnley.

I hope all Burnley fans sing Ashley's name loud and clear at the Turf on Monday!

To show him just how much we appreciate what he has done while being at Burnley.

He's been with us so long, and been so identified with the Dyche years, that it's easy to forget we signed him from a Brighton team who played a very patient, possession based style of football - under Poyet amongst others. But in that light perhaps its no surprise he's proved so adept at adapting to what we so now.

If our neighbours down the m65 had an ounce of gumption they'd be all over this.

Barnes has just about everything they lack, in spades.
Grit, nous, power, goals, spunk, promotion experience x3 and no little charisma.

If I were a cashless JDT he'd be right up there on my list.

Pretty sure Ash was playing the game SD told him to. A great hold up man, to me it was evident by his anger on the pitch that he was being told to get the team up the pitch by buying fouls. Sorry to see him go and would have been delighted to see him given another twelve months in preparation for moving into the back room, but fully understand the logic behind calling time on his stay. I’d love to see him go somewhere like Huddersfield or Bristol City; somewhere where he’ll be loved until he decides it’s time to hang up his boots.

VK on him leaving:

"In reference to Barnes, who is out of contract in the summer, Kompany said: “I’ve been there before, nothing lasts forever unfortunately. I’ve been through the very same as what he’s experiencing now, but it’ll be the best time of his life, though he doesn't know it yet. “I think he knows now, but it’ll be the best time of his life. There’s no better way, this is the performance, the fans, the recognition. Imagine if it would have been last year, so I think this is how it is but in the end, it’ll be the best time of his life.”

Vincent certainly squeezed a bit more out the tube of toothpaste when alot of us would have just bought a fresh one.

It's empty now, what a great taste that tube was though, eh?

Nice one Ash, that goal against Palace 3-2, wow.

He’s been a fantastic player for us and in the first half of the season it seemed like he didn’t have much to offer the side any more. How wrong some of us were. He’s been very good in the past 15 games or so and was phenomenal last night.

As for retaining him, I can see where he could have his uses next season, but with a squad limited to 25 players, and no doubt some serious strengthening needed, we will need to make room - and letting out of contract players leave is the easiest way to do this. That said, I’d rather have him than Jay next season, and that’s not something I thought I’d say at the halfway point in the season.

He would never go there....his antics in the last game between and I expect he will be looking to give it to them some more in the next meeting too.

Its a shame we can't do a deal with Southampton for Tella.

He hasn’t actually been ‘dirty’ this season though. Other than putting the Blackburn goalie in the net. I’ll forgive him that one.

He's done more than ok considering he's played most of his Burnley career in the PL, and he will be missed, however time to move on in my view.

I don't agree he's dirty, old school perhaps, but he receives plenty of treatment as well as what he dishes out to defenders.

Post what some posters perceive as provocative comments, and you should expect a reaction.

However there is no call for folks throwing abuse, if they disagree as I do then they are free to state why they disagree instead of resorting to name calling.
