Foster

Post by Dano1bfc » Mon Apr 10, 2023 10:56 pm

Now I see why we signed him.

Thought he was outstanding first half from wide and across the line.

Was caught offside a couple of times but nothing that can’t be worked on. However his runs were intelligent and dangerous. Pace , aggression , tenacity , intelligence, and most of all desire. Can’t ask for more.

Looked like a rabbit in the headlights at first . However we forget he’s young , in a new country , attendances and monetary pressure much more than the lads faced before.

He obviously needs to play ‘off’ the orchestrator’ just like a lot of top footballers to be at his best. He’s not a focal point.

Not that I’m comparing him to a legend , but Henry was branded a flop at first . How did that turn out?

If he plays at 25% of that level we have a player.

I believe.

Another good night clarets , all the best to you all . Times like these don’t come around often.

Drink it in. 👍

his movement is there, pre-season will sort the kinks out but the step up to the PL is pretty big. Let's see how he goes but I saw what the OP saw too in large parts regarding his movement

Foster will be a confidence player, soon as he’s playing with confidence he will be a very good player to have but I do think a striker will come in the summer

He's a chance now.

Looking better game by game. Always hard to sign in January too. I remember Ashley Barnes took a few months to adapt and get going. Robbie Blake another. Trust VK’s process . He’s the master

Last couple of apps he's looked quick, strong, dangerous and gets stuck in. I like him

Silly comparison, I know, but Rashford plays a thousand times better for UTD from wide than he does playing centrally, and I wonder if this suits Foster better as well. I draw the comparison because they are both tall, strong, quick forwards who like to battle their markers and run at goal, and who look better when there's another forward with his back to goal in the middle, Rashford obviously doing it at a much higher level than Foster. Had a good first half, just looked like a player needing to get up to speed with the rest of his team.

Foster will be great, don’t forget we’re not playing with a c/f anymore ,will be good dropping deep like Barnes is doing.

Foster performed competently and linked up play well but he was not playing in his best position. Benson made a massive difference second half.

We looked better after he and Cork were subbed. But we often play better in the second half. Early days for Foster, we'll see.

The jury is out for me. Going to wait until he's had a pre season
before passing judgement.

Looks way off the pace for the Championship, so I'm really not holding out much hope that he'll be at the required standard next season. Early days though so will trust VK's judgement on this (although last night's substitution was a little damning).

Better than Barnes last night who was pretty awful. Good movement, skill and pressing. I think Foster will get a run of games shortly (Kompany alluded to more of the squad getting a chance after the game) so it’ll be a good opportunity to fully see what he’s about. I quite like the look of him and excited to see more.

I thought Lyle looked good last night as well. Linked up well, and held the ball up when he had to. I'm sure the change at halftime was tactical.
Needs more game time, and this run in is the ideal time.

I agree I think the signs were there. He made a few decent passes in the final third and some intelligent runs (he was offside a lot but I think part of that was the other plays not being used to the runs he was making).

There’s ability there, I’m excited to see what comes the rest of this season.

Exactly
Very average last night but didn't help when he is paired up front with Barnes and VK does not like us to play crosses into the box from out wide
They were both starved of any service they required
We needed the extra wide man to stretch their defence so subbing him made sense (although it could quite easily have been Barnes going off instead)
He may be a good signing for the future but not at Premiership level next season - a year loan to a Championship club will help rather than sitting on the bench with us and getting little or no game time

I'm still not seeing it to be honest, but sitting in the JML it could just as easily be down to my eyesight as Foster's talent!

Foster should have stayed on instead of Barnes and benefitted from the two creative lads coming on.

Though of applying for Kompany's job? We scored two after he was subbed.

Eh?

We cross the ball plenty of times.

What game are you watching?!

Yeah we don’t play side to side and then when nothings on hit it into the box like we did under Dyche when playing a team that sat in but we’ve scored plenty of goals from crosses this season - heck both of our goals from last night came from crosses into the box!

The great thing is each game he makes steps forward in his approach and play. You can see the development progressing.. I’m genuinely optimistic that there is quite a bit more to come. But some players take longer to settle than others

Thing is, he was unlucky to be sacrificed last night (you could make an argument that he is the future and Barnes is not for starters)

But its a huge ask to expect him to step up to the premier league when he's only really played a couple of games at this level

Certainly you can see why we took a gamble on him though
