Claiming a Successful Bet

Post by FigSlice » Thu Apr 20, 2023 2:34 pm

Last summer I placed a bet at the local bookies for Burnley to be promoted back to the Premier League. Now that promotion is assured whatever happens in the remaining games I went to claim my winnings. The bookies say they can't/won't pay out until the end of the season. Is this normal?

Bookies make up their own take on this. Some online ones paid out before we were mathematically certain. Paddy Power paid out a week after we were certain… local bookies can decide when to do it up until shortly after the last match.

Generally they like the goodwill of being seen to pay out. I guess they could say we might have a points deduction or something so it isn’t over until we are officially recognised as having been promoted by the Premier League

My promotion bet was settled the evening of the Boro game. That was with Sky Bet. Spent it all in Barcudda in Boro that night. Still waiting on my Champions bet to pay out. Name and shame these betting shop shysters.

Yes with some bookmakers employees who do everything by their company computer. Just a lack of common sense I'm afraid. I've been unsuccessful trying to get paid out on first goalscorer bets, even when there is no doubt, as in a penalty taker. Yet you would more likely be paid online but I couldn't guarantee every company would

Seems reasonable enough to me. The competition hasn't finished.

Strange behaviour but not uncommon from betting shops. For whatever reason the online versions of the same companies tend to pay once it’s confirmed.

I wonder if they pay out on first goal scorer bets before the match finishes at the shop.

Technically / legally, they don’t have to pay out at all. They wouldn’t last long in the bookie business if they were seen not to pay out on winning bets, though.

Gambling debts with licenced bookies have been legally enforceable for nearly 20 years now.

It's a shame bets made with gobshites on the internet like cutsy/4midable or whatever he's calling himself these days aren't.

Oh ok. Looks like my “knowledge” is out of date then.

Wasn’t it you that KBRFC welched out on a bet with, leaving us stuck with him on here? Looks like you have form with gobshites on the internet.

Local bookies finally paid out today after almost 3 weeks of guaranteed promotion for the Clarets. Looking forward to next season's campaign! UTC

I won 14k on a football bet about 7 years ago, placed the bet whilst in London working.

Bookies up here wouldn’t pay out, had to have a phone call with a manager who asked me about every selection and team and why I backed it. Arranged a date to pick the money up from a bookies in Preston.

They make it hard work, just use online now not been in a betting shop in years.

Me being in California didn’t see any of it
Gave my granddaughter 1000 for her First birthday and the rest went to my sister for putting the bet on for me 😎
She put the wrong bet on! I asked her to put the bet for just getting promotion 🤣

I have Burnley @ 14s in 2 each way multiple bets.

One each way doubles with City to win PL (4/7) and Haaland to be leading scorer (7/2)

And the other each way trebles with Wrexham to win league (11/8) ; City to win league (8/13) and Haaland leading scorer at 4s.

So just need City to win title and Harry Kane to not score 20 goals in his last 3 games !!

I've got a betting question;
Last July I put a £1 yankee (so £11 bet, I think) on Man City, Burnley, Barnsley and Bradford all to win their leagues with an each way bet paying 4 places.
Man City (guaranteed top 4, potential/likely winners), Burnley (winners), Barnsley (4th), Bradford (let me down) should I expect a return once the Premier League title has been decided, or would I already have been paid out by now, or should I expect nothing?

Will be paid out once the premier league has been decided.

If City win, then you'll have the Burnley * Man City win double (estimated 12/1 and 4/6 - so £21)
Then Burnley Man City, Burnley Barnsley and Man City Barnsley doubles (assume 3/1 Burnley place, 1/6 City Place - no idea Barnsley but if they were 5/1 a place then your doubles are worth about £35
And a place treble worth £28 - so about £85 back if city win the league, and about £65 if they finish 2nd - assuming Barnsley were about 20/1 to win League One.

I'm guessing that it might be a win Yankee and an ew accumulator. Hopefully it is an ew Yankee. Distortionate just needs to be clear.

I don't know how to do a proper screenshot, but my open bet is;

Man City @ 4/7
win outright
resulted no

Burnley @ 9/1
Championship winner
resulted yes

Barnsley @14/1
League one winner
resulted - yes placed 4

Bradford @ 7/1
League two winner
resulted no

It's not going to be millions either way, but for the final few weeks of the season am I cheering on Man City to get me a few quid?

Betting on Line isn't recommended. I enjoy a bet but swerve on line Betting.
