Steven Defour

Post by CleggHall » Fri Oct 28, 2016 12:21 pm

A good piece on Steven Defour in today's Guardian, sounds to have the right attitude, enjoys playing in a team at Turf Moor but injury has blighted his career so far. Here's hoping.

"Defour has Ferguson to thank for a thoughtful letter but he is indebted to Dyche for a belated ticket to English football and reawakening his passion for the game. Even Turf Moor is part of the attraction. “It is really old-fashioned, English style, I love it. The manager said I had everything to win, that you are going to play in the Premier League and everybody is going to watch you. He was really ambitious and convinced we can do something with this team. He is straightforward, honest and he wants us to be a team. It is the first time I am playing for a team that is really that – a team. There is no little group. Before I had a Spanish side or a Portuguese side or an English side, different ethnic groups. Here everybody is together.”"

Basically the words and sentiments you dream of your star player putting on the record.

I still have to pinch myself from time to time to remind me that Steven Defour plays for Burnley

"Here everybody is together" - It's this sort of quote that make me ridiculously proud to be a claret.

Which part of your body do you pinch? I always pinch my arm half way up.

Is there an argument for a 60 mins of Defour / 30 mins of Barton arrangement?

Like Natasha Bedingfield I bruise easily. I therefore opt to pinch my earlobe.

Not sure we'd get away with playing someone for half an hour who isn't our player :D

His music was better then hers and she absolutely murdered an Oasis song live on Radio 1 once...

I wouldn't pinch her, I'd punch her.

That is a good point about using Defour for 60 minutes, as it appears that is going to have to be the case. Dale Stephens I think will be the target in January to beef up our options, as we don't really have what we need yet.

Forget Joey. It was the right man in the right place at the right time. We need to build for the future now and have the money to do it.

Stephens is not coming here in january. He will wait until the end of the year to either move on or resign. I'm probably mad to think this but maybe grosicki deal gets over the line? With time maybe the details can be hashed out this time.

Her asinine records having thankfully erased themselves from my memory, my only recollection of her is an NME review which said that her latest effort was proof that lack of talent doesn't just run in her family, it f***ing sprints.

Class act...could have made it into a top European team but for his injuries. Foot problem and strain on other muscles interesting - looks like he is coming to terms with how to deal with this going forward and 'educating his body' Hope he stays fit - he is one of the keys to us staying in this Div - if not THE key factor..

Resign ah re-sign

Interested one regarding January. I can see why Brighton might take a gamble on losing out on millions for him, if keeping him might bring in the millions of the premier league.

Big risk though, particularly as Norwich and Newcastle are clear favourites for the top two spots and that only leaves the lottery of the play off places, which as they well know is far from guaranteed.

I'd be inclined to line someone else up and move him on, if I were in there shoes.

When I read things like that from one of our players, especially in the context of modern football, it really does remind me what a great time it is to be a claret. I started going on the Turf in 1975 and I really can't remember better.
