The Great St Wilfred, Ripon 3.15

Post by Eyesofblue2 » Fri Aug 18, 2023 10:44 pm

It's only a couple of weeks since I was asking for help to solve the Stewards Cup puzzle at Glorious Goodwood, and now I'm in need of more assistance, I love the Great St Wilfred, it's one of the highlights of the flat season, but it's a bugger finding the winner. A bit of research has shown that the previous year's race is often a good place to start, the 2019 winner Dakota Gold was runner up the previous year, the 2020 winner Staxton was 5th the previous year, the 2022 winner Intrinsic Bond was 4th the previous year and this has led me to David O'Meara's Summerghand, which was slowly away last year but still won the race on the far side, finishing 4th overall. This is such a tricky race though that I want to back more than just Summerghand, any suggestions would be very welcome.

I've had a little tickle on Summerghand 11/2 and also Sophia's Starlight 12/1 who ran 2nd last time at Glorious Goodwood despite a slipped saddle soon after the race started. Bet365 are 1/5 the odds for 6 places. Good luck with any that you choose to back.

Cheers DC, Sophia's Starlight is also on my shortlist and I will be backing it. I'm going to wait until 9am in the morning to put my bets on, then I can get a BOG.

It Just Takes Time looks to have a good profile for the race looking at previous winner stats. My favourite racecourse is Ripon, a great day out.

Hard to look past Monsieur Kodi.

3lb ride is very lenient, especially after his last ride 2 weeks ago at Goodwood where he brushed aside the rest very easily and won.

We didn't do too badly DC, we'll have to get together again for the Ayr Gold Cup.
