Favourite Signing Under Kompany

Post by Cleveleys_claret » Thu Aug 24, 2023 10:39 am

So I was thinking after CTs post about all of Kompanys signing and who was my favourite. It was so hard to think of just one

Benson and his goals

Zaroury and his runs

Muric because of how he just changed the way we play and the effects on some of the older amongst us when the ball is at his feet, the gasps and moans before laughs at how ridiculous his passing range is

Cullen and his calmness

Tella with his infectious smile

Beyer picking up the ball and charging through the centre of the pitch

But for me it has to be Ameen Al Dakhil...this guy is so calm and composed, watching him just has me thinking the sky is the limit for him. I don't think we can put a ceiling on how far he can go

I cannot disagree with a word about Ameen Al-Dakhil. I've been hugely impressed with him and I think he could have a massive future in the game. I thought THB was terrific for us but his injury proved to be crucial because it led to the Al-Dakhil signing.

Plenty of others too, but you always look at the match winners Nathan Tella and Manuel Benson but his best signing for me was Josh Cullen.

Got to be Benson. He provides the moments we all go to football to see, the ones that get us off our feet.

Cullen and Muric. Transformed the way we play. I got the sense Kompany signed Cullen early on, put him in the middle of the pitch at Gawthorpe and said to everyone else "Play like Josh plays."

It would be Benson for me if he only came on for the last 30minutes of each game.

I loved BeckenBeyer.

He really is a class act, but...

But Nathan Tella Baby was such a vibrant, exciting and positive player in the team. He's the one that scored the crucial goals needed to win the league. It has to be Nate the Great for me. When he scored and then that huge smile appeared I just loved it. I wish he would hurry up and come home.

This but I’d have to add Tella to last years and Ramsey to this.
The fact that there’s so many is a testament to the quality of the signings
Cos if you keep thinking about it THB & Mattsen were great signings and Muric got better and better
Trafford could follow the same growth path hopefully

I really thought about tella but I just wanted to keep it to people who are perm with us but there are so many, last season is the one season where you can go back and just rewatch every game and goal smile (maybe not first half at Sunderland and second half against sheff united)

He is home, at Southamptom. We can't meet their demands.

VK has made an absolute mockery of those who said we couldn’t afford to not play hoof ball. Zaroury, Benson, Cullen and Al Dakhil combined cost close to what we spent on Jeff Hendrick.

Beyer for me - reminds me of Steve Davis (2) but with a higher ceiling

From this season, Amdouni looks an exciting player, however there are so many to be positive about

Tough one

Most important? I’d say Cullen

Most exciting? Definitely Benson

Most potential? I think Ameen Al-Dakhil

Zaroury for me, but so many are close. Benson, Cullen, Tella, Beyer...

This season I have a feeling quite a few will surprise us. Al-Dakhil and Amdouni have been mentioned, for obvious reasons. But I wouldn't be surprised if Trafford makes some incredible point-winning saves in big games, Foster works his way into some miraculous away win folklore, and we all decide in May that Berge is an upgraded combination of Cork and Brownhill all wrapped into one. Exciting times

Tough to pick one out of the bunch.

Probably one of Beyer, Benson, Zaroury or Al-Dakhil.

Cullen and Beyer the most consistent performers and probably most valuable to the team, Benson the most dazzling and eye-catching, Tella obviously the most effective in terms of raw goal contribution, but for me it's Muric by a mile. For 87 minutes a game he's genuinely worth the price of admission just on his own. Love watching him. I really want Trafford to do well because it's a lot of money spent if he doesn't, but I really want to see Muric doing his antics in the prem even if it means he has a wobbler every now and again. Why would you even catch a ball when you can UFC knee strike it clear?

Benson is exciting and gets you on the edge of your seat when he gets the ball and starts running at them. Zaroury is similar in that there's almost a level of unfair expectation on what he will do when he gets the ball at his feet. But I too really like Ameen Al Dakhil as I think he has everything to succeed at the highest level, that and the fact that when he first signed he was showing his family round town and was just loving being in Burnley - it was refreshing to see and so down to earth and I hope he retains that humility in his career (and I think he will).

We've never ever had such a glut of talent come into the club in a single tranche like we had last season.

If we do just half as well (respectively for the Prem) this season we'll have a great year.

You could make a genuine case for six or seven of last years signings.

I agree wholeheartedly with coolclaret, but my own personal favourite, the one that has stood out for me since he stepped on the pitch, is BeckenBeyer.

Considering he was thought by many to be playing alongside the cultured and classy one, I personally think he showed every week he was the best centre half at the club.

Al Dakhil though will be the one who moves on to greater things. I’m talking city/real/barca/bayern here.

Steve Davie so sounds like he should be a footballer, raised in Glasgow had all the talent in the World but loved the bright lights too much, died, drunk and pennyless.

If I had to pick one, then Benson, didn't think he had the knackers at first but they sorted him out quickly. Will be interesting to see how he fares in the PL.

I don't want this thread hijacked but VK has not succeeded in The Premier League yet, so he hasn't made 'an absolute mockery of those who said we couldn’t afford to not play hoof ball' because I'm sure 'those who said' it were referring to the top division. I hope VK does succeed of course but we wait to see.

Al Dakhil - obvious quality and potential.
Cullen - almost essential to the new way of working.
Muric - completely different to any goalkeeper we've had before.

Agree on Al-Dakhil as well. Just has to get a little more ‘Street wise’ and a bit better in the air and we’re laughing.

Everyone mentioned above is a fan favourite in their own right, but for me it’s got to be Benson.

He’s the type of footballer and he scores the types of goals you dreamed of doing growing up.

Love Muric - crazy ability on the ball and his keeping improved. Has potential to be a cult figure.

Beyer and Al Dakhil are incredibly talented and we are fortunate to have them.

Harsh to compare at this stage. Hendrick was bought in the Premier League and contributed to us being an established team at that level, even qualifying for Europe. We haven't seen what VK's signings can do at this level yet. We might do a Norwich who also won the Championship playing great football, but went straight back down trying to do the same thing.

But, to answer the original question - Benson, all day long.
