Oh dear. Maybe the break has come at the right time. We're in a mess if Beyer, Ekdal and Al-Dakhil are all out.

Re: Al-Dakhil
So he was injured when he went off at half time. Terrible luck for us in that game with Beyer out too.
Re: Al-Dakhil
We do seem to have quite a few injury prone players.

Probably the first time ever we can celebrate an international break.

Re: Al-Dakhil
Possibly a bit of survivor bias here too... Injury prone players have usually been weeded out by the time they're approaching 30burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 3:10 pmOften the case with younger players, still developing physically.

Re: Al-Dakhil
Big difference between injury prone and just plain injured. I've read that Beyer has a bit of history regarding injury, but none of the other VK signings who are currently out .

Re: Al-Dakhil
That doesn’t surprise me as flu/“Covid” is all over the place again this past few weeks in the normal population. I can see that being an issue for several of each club’s squads in the coming few weeks if it isn’t already.claretandy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 5:04 pmKoleosho has "flu like symptoms"...

Wonder if our squad was already impacted by this at the weekend?Claretforever wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:39 pmThat doesn’t surprise me as flu/“Covid” is all over the place again this past few weeks in the normal population. Do you think clubs will be able to call games off with Flu like they did with Covid?Claretforever wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:39 pmThat doesn’t surprise me as flu/“Covid” is all over the place again this past few weeks in the normal population. It caused havoc but they have made a rod for their own back.

It's certainly not an ideal scenario, and calls our recruitment policy into question yet again.ClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 2:25 pmOh dear. Maybe the break has come at the right time. We're in a mess if Beyer, Ekdal and Al-Dakhil are all out.
Re: Al-Dakhil
Why? It would same harsh using injuries as a way of critising the approach to recruitment, unless we signed a bunch of injury prone players that was known prior to signing them.dougcollins wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 7:36 amIt's certainly not an ideal scenario, and calls our recruitment policy into question yet again.

Re: Al-Dakhil
More about lack of cover there compared with, say, wide midfield positions.
I strongly believe we should at least have brought in THB.

How do you know we didn't try?

We have 5 centre halves (not including Taylor). We aren't short of numbers.dougcollins wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 11:48 amMore about lack of cover there compared with, say, wide midfield positions.

Re: Al-Dakhil
I doubt it. Flu has been around for donkeys - I think you're a bit unlucky if you do manage to catch it as it floors you, but the chances of catching it seem far less than covid, which seems to be spreading everywhere. Thing is with this latest covid strain is that everyone I know who've had it (myself included) it seems just like a bad cold and I wouldn't expect it to impact professional sportsman for anything more than a few daysQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 10:39 pmDo you think clubs will be able to call games off with Flu like they did with Covid?

Re: Al-Dakhil
It was virtually impossible to call a game off for flu (just ask Boro when deducted 3 points)Belial wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2023 1:13 pmI doubt it. But Covid changed that and allowed clubs to take the pee. Just wondering if it changed the long term thinking on calling games off for health reasons?

Re: Al-Dakhil
Man of the match at Salford playing centre half position was a certain Jack Cork.
Obviously a lot lower standard but Jack was outstanding with distribution and positional play.
