Glad he’s getting the help he needs. Also a positive at how much easier it is for players to get help now. A few players have spoken in the past where if you break your leg it’s treated as an injury but depression had way more stigma around it.

As an aside maybe posters on here can take heed about the way they treat other posters. I have seen people ridiculed on a regular basis because they don't think how they think and their views don't tally with their own.

We are all here because of our love of BFC. Let's try to treat all our fans and all our players with the kindness and respect that we would hope to be treated with ourselves.

Speaking from personal experience, mental health was/is the hardest thing to recover from. Can never put a finger on the triggers and from one week to the next can be in a whole new place mentally.

I got the help I needed a few years ago, and the coping mechanisms I learnt are still being practiced to this day.

I sympathise with Lyle and anyone else who suffers. Get well soon!

If there’s anyone reading this who is affected, please reach out, everyone cares. I’d much rather have one of my friends call me and be their shoulder when they need it, than it be a phone call to let me know of their funeral.

Can only echo all the comments in support of Lyle and the related support groups.

The acceptance of mental health as a serious illness has come on leaps and bounds over the last 20 years.

When my sister took her life all those years ago and despite there being 300+ at her funeral she was treated atrociously by both the Burnley Express and LET.

If the care and treatment hasn't improved at least societies views have.

I've been there with depression and it's a dark and cold and scary place - and very lonely, even if you're surrounded by people that love you.

Vaguely remember that. Extremely sad. I also remember a poster called ratsalad at the time personally helping me by sending me an email with a document of coping mechanisms after we exchanged emails on claretsmad around that time. I don’t know if he or she posts on here or if they read this board but never got the chance to say thankyou so I hope you read this.

I can empathise with that ....being in an environment where you might really enjoy what you do....but cannot necessarily do all those things you're expected to do....especially if you're of an introvert nature performing on a stage for extroverts.

A few mouthy media types have recently belittled people, men in particular for saying they suffer with such problems. The inference being that they are somehow weak, and admitting to such problems is not something that should be socially acceptable. The majority of right thinking folk know what utter ***** that is.
Life can be very tough for many of us through a myriad of reasons. No one is immune if circumstances conspire against us. Its heartening to read so many supportive comments on this thread. There is help and assistance out there. No shame whatsoever in seeking that help out. Wishing you well Lyle, you will find the strength to overcome this hurdle .

Tonight I have seen remarks about Lyle all over Twitter X and also on here. I’ve seen comments from people all over the world who support all kinds of teams. For the first time I can remember about anyone it is 100% positive. Mental health awareness is so strong now.

Also lots of comments praising Burnley Football Club and saying he could not be working for a better place.

It’s very emotional seeing the good that people are capable of, and what our club is capable of. Credit to everyone, and especially to Lyle for showing such strength in coming forward. We stick together as one, as does the wider football community. Up the Clarets.

Thinking of you Lyle. Just when you think you have beaten it, it can sneak back into your life. Good that you are aware early. Sometimes you are completely unaware, thinking it can't touch you and then it surprises you. I found I had to deal with some difficult memories and feelings. It hit me in 2009 after years of denial, (unaware denial, which seems weird now) began with medication, lost my job two years later, medication required for 7 years, off medication now for 7 years and after working again the past 4 years have chosen to retire officially at the end of March next year, one month before my 72nd birthday. I still have the occasional 'dip' but I'm now able to accept it and handle it when it visits me again, just to say hi. Good luck Lyle and fellow sufferers.

Not sure if you’ve seen the Beckham Netflix documentary but he talks about the way he felt at times in his career and you can only imagine the support network and understanding wasn’t there back then, it must have been horrendous, you could say he still struggles as a consequence.

Good luck Lyle in your recovery. Mental illness is something that can make you the loneliest person in a crowded room and probably the best solution is to talk and often. There are innumerable reasons for it but whatever the reason, you need support and it’s as often from the people that you don’t know as much as the ones that you do.
