That’s absolutely awful. He should be prosecuted and completely banned indefinitely from any football involvement. I hope the referee sues him.

More profit in suing the club, I would think. The police say that detention will follow his hospital treatment, and I don't think it's a good idea to get on the wrong side of the law/the police in Turkey.

I noticed that the club statement made no mention of him being instantly sacked and banned for life from the club premises - perhaps he's the owner as well as the president?

Disgraceful. Must be a life time ban from all football activities that.

I told my wife about the club president punching the ref and she asked if I could imagine Alan Pace running onto the pitch and doing that. More like British Bulldog I suggested with Pace hand in hand with his wife and daughter !

Disgraceful as said by all above no wonder we can’t get people to take up refereeing locally.

Add to that this:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=73359&sid=42fe085bb ... 4cdafd4b88

...and this:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... ooliganism

Not to mention the attack by their own fans on the Ajax stadium:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a ... 24967679ad
Not trying to play Devil’s Advocate here , but highlighting one of the most bitter rivalries in world football ( Ajax v Feyn) and some aggro at the Sept West Ham AZ game is nothing whatsoever to do with a violent assault on a ref . But yes especially at euro games sadly there still loads of trouble .

Grassroots football is blighted with Ref assaults which led to the whole of Merseyside leagues temporarily suspending their leagues last year due to just that . I’ve seen 15yr refs seriously threatened . It’s usually the behaviour of the managers which sparks it though .

Re: Greece ,do they still ban away fans in league games ? I know Greece had a ban for yrs which was still in place when we played in Athens .

And on the same day as the grass roots refs went on strike to protest about abuse from managers etc., the odious Jurgen Klopp when dancing down the touchline to shout at a linesman who had dared give a decision that Klopp didn't like - thus proving that he, Klopp, stands firmly in favour of the right for managers to abuse referees.

The treatment refs get at every level is simply appalling . We’re not talking crowd banter and panto villians either . Refs are like goalkeepers , there’s literally a fag paper between 100’s of them . Yes occasional errors are made and VAR has made it a whole lot worse .

Refs are like goalkeepers, in that you can't have a football match without them.

And kicked in the head whilst on the floor at that, terrible scenes.

No worries on that score, I've spent three nights in that jail and other than having a very expensive bar it was a lovely place.

Do they still have public flogging in Turkey?
A good job it's not Saudi Arabia, could be a sword in the centre circle at half time kind of punishment.

On talk sport today they were saying the ref is seriously thinking of retiring.

Without refs, we have no game.

Shocking behaviour, hope other refs refuse to ref future fixtures.

Awful to see things like this. It's just basic respect for another person. I still play amateur football and I never abuse the ref, sometimes decisions go your way and sometimes it goes against you. Just got to get on with the game an appreciate they are doing their best.

he definitely did a paul alcock after that punch.

still shocking and outrageous though. referees are going to start needing bodyguards if this carries on.

But more than a shuv though. He felt the contact and was right to go down...

In all seriousness, he was left with a nasty shiner on his eye, referees don't deserve that.

The club president has now been arrested along with 2 others. League football in Turkey has been suspended.

He did indeed go down like a sack of sh1t, though the shiner was surely from the follow up kick in the face by another loon . Quite staggering that this can happen in even in a basket case league like Turkey .

From BBC Sports page.

Koca, 59, was twice elected to Turkey's parliament as part of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party.

He was earlier quoted by news agencies in Turkey as saying he does not accept responsibility, adding: "This incident developed due to the wrong decisions and provocative behaviour of the referee. My aim was to react verbally to the referee and spit in his face."

Such a shame he threw a punch because of course verbally abusing the referee and spitting in his face would have been perfectly fine wouldn't it!

Idiot! a lifetime ban from any football involvement has to be handed out here - but I doubt it will happen!

A punch to cause a fractured cheekbone would do that 🙄

This has been coming for years. Authorities should come down hard on any abuse physically or verbally. Even kids are doing it. Take a leaf out of Rugby’s book.
