As you say it had been a brilliant year for Burnley Football Club. Worthy champions of the old Div. 2, a smooth, successful transition into the highest division and sitting close to the top as the year ended.
Didn't go to Villa in Jan 73 for the emphatic 0-3 victory
but did go to Wolves in Sep 73, a 0-2 win, a stunning goal from Frank Casper and a display to whet the appetite for any travelling Clarets that day.
I'm guessing I left Turf Moor after the Wolves drawn game feeling a little deflated but once home and with time to think I'm sure I realised what a great time it was to be a Claret as a new year dawned.
Just want to say 'thanks', CT, for your efforts regarding two contrasting seasons. Great memories, some not so and incidents in games I'd completely forgotten about.

Have to confess there are a lot of incidents that I'd forgotten about but what I won't forget is just how magical that year was.
I've never witnessed a promotion and then such a start to the following season. The one year that can be favourably compared is 1947, winning promotion and then doing so well in the First Division and finishing third. That, however, was well before our time.

The achievements by the club in 1947 go completely unrecognised in the pre-match “theatre”. No mention in the regular video illustrating a potted history of our club. Nor any acknowledgement via the illuminated signage that works its way around the stands in synch with the video. Yet the club won promotion to the top flight and appeared in the FA Cup Final. One of only three occasions on which Burnley has done so. The 1946-47 season was hugely successful for our club and, as CT stated, we subsequently finished in 3rd position in 1947-48 season. Surely, the double of promotion and a cup final appearance is worthy of recognition? It marked the start of 24 consecutive seasons in the top division until our relegation in 1970-71 season.
