Anyone mentioned the night club at the bottom of the bus station in Burnley, now a dentist but can't remember the name?

At a fuction last night where someone said there was a 'club' in Nelson above the Zoo/Lord Nelson pub?
Chaplins in the basement?

I remember rocking up for my German GCSE on a Friday morning after I'd been in Mean Cats on 10p a pint Thursdays. Just about cobbled together a uniform as I was staying at a mates house, and had to make the journey to West Park Road feeling very queasy indeed.

To say Mr Healey was angry would be an understatement.

Never went in the 90s, but was absolutely superb in the mid to late 70s....if you could get in.
There was a big Welsh bouncer on the door who seemed to take a perverse pleasure in
turning folk away (no, we weren't p1ssed). "Not tonight lads, try t'Cats".

But when you got in it was a really good night, loads of women, only
thing was the ale was awful, J Lees or something, some nights it was undrinkable.
(But we still drank it) :D
  before my time but sounds mental !

He was pretty chill most of the time, aye. I must admit, if I'd known in 1999/2000 that I'd be needing that German at some point in the future, I'd have probably listened a bit more.

Surprised Basil hasn’t mentioned the Birdtrap, soul all niters in the late 60s, at homely Walter Street club in Brierfield. Now revived for monthly soul nights, same venue. Also in Burnley in the 60s was the Cavern Club, unsurprisingly at basement level underneath the Mechanics in Manchester Road

Was that the place sort of down the side of M&S? I remember going in a place down there with some friends who had come up from London with me late 90s and it was £6 entrance, free draught beer and house spirits after that. 50p per mixer. Amongst the no name vodka, gin and whisky they had Southern Comfort. So I spent all night drinking neat SC. The London lot were astounded that you could get in a club and drink all night for £6 and also just how much Southern Comfort it was possible to polish off in an evening

As a contrast, I went to see Kaiser Chiefs on Saturday evening in East London. Stopped in a boozer just up the road from the venue before the gig, 1 double gin and lemonade and a pint and I was relieved of £18.70....

we were so lucky to have the Angels, unbelievable place in the very early 90's.
Angels was a good club in the late 70’s early 80’s. However as other posters have alluded to, if the bouncers didn’t like the look of you you weren’t getting in.
Bit of a schlep over to the Circ if that was the case and the girls were of a much higher standard in the Angels.
I do remember that foamy JW Lees Bitter in the Angels though. Mind you I think the Cats used to serve foamy Wilson’s Bitter?
My memory isn’t what it used to be though as it is 46 years ago that I first started visiting these iconic establishments.
Great nights.

Harrison's Hoist Earby, made the papers after numbers were arrested one night and bussed to Barnoldswick police station.
Birdtrap, original niter.
Ouzeldale (soul at the Ooze) Barnoldswick, all dayers .

Stepney, not far from Limehouse DLR Station on the A13. Think it was called The Craft Beer Co. Gig was at Troxy.

I remember the Circulation, and El Trop. I took my first love Christine Allen to see Bobby Vee at Blackburn Cavendish , quite the posh place back in the day.
Good memories.

It was called Sands from the start it was later called Blueberries if I remember correctly, I know it was Sands as I worked there from just after it opened bottling up at the weekend used to get about £2 an hour in 1974-75 then went to the match after, handy for the bus.

Was there a nightclub on Bethesda St called 'Millenium'? It was either there or on Brown Street. If I've got the right name, what was it called before that? It's doing my head in trying to remember. Would've been mid to late 90's maybe into early 00's.
Yes — or ‘Milleniums’ as we used to call it (like Stickies)!

Had an Egyptian theme outside, like a pharaoh statue or similar?

Wasn't " Bogarts " the latter name of " Cranberry Fair " up on the moors above Darwen ? Now flattened for housing ... " Peepers " was in the basement of a Pub near Blackburn College .. There was a place called " Zanzibars " on Darwen Street in Blackburn in the early 80's ..

Another memory was my first ever use of a Credit Card, a Nat West " Access " card. I accompanied my then girlfriend to the St Barts Hospital Ball at the Sloane Square Hilton in January 1985. Before entering, we had " cocktails " which I rashly said " I'll get these " ... served in hollowed out pineapples, they were £20 for 4 of them !! :o To put it in perspective, it cost £4 for a ticket to that years England v Scotland 5 Nations game at Twickenham, and £9 to see Springsteen at Wembley Stadium six months later !!

Hated going to any nightclubs in Burnley but followed the crowd.

Do Bojangles / Kestrel Suite count as nightclubs as they were fairly decent ?

I would much prefer to go for a curry at the Koh-I-Noor, Sharma or Al Khadin after a dozen pints.

I would agree... Koh-i-Noor was my first sitdown curry as a 14 year-old. I remember the background music was a compilation of The Shadows...
