Northern Lights

Post by Rowls » Fri May 10, 2024 2:24 pm

A heads up to everybody interested: The forecast suggests there is a strong* chance of being able to see the northern lights tonight, as long as there's a clear sky.

The weather forecast says we might have clear skies before midnight from about 11pm and into the early hours of the morning.

* IE. Far more likely than normal but not entirely guaranteed, as I understand it.

For those interested - the AuroraWatch UK app is pretty good for giving you warnings whenever conditions are right

It is - I often get notifications, but have never managed to get out to see it. You really need to find somewhere without light pollution, which at best round here means the Nick of Pendle or similar. Even then, looking north, you have Clitheroe...

If you can respond to these notifications and get to the Trough of Bowland, you're laughing!

I was in Lapland in January (work related) and we were told there was a good chance to see the lights that evening.

The locals told me to view them by using my phones camera - made a big difference

Excellent in Stirling too and Salisbury, evidently. It was the whole country.

The thing I learned is not to look north for northern lights!

Yeah, still potential for strong auroral activity tonight, but weather unfavourable as showing near 100% cloud cover.

Also, how do you attach pics? Been trying to upload mine this morning but can't / not sure how to do it.
